Here's a bit of news that will have you scratching your head. Dish Network, the beleaguered satellite TV competitor to rival Direct TV is moving into a new business to supplement their revenue. Your first instinct might be to assume that they are getting into streaming, or music or some other content delivery project. That would make sense, but that would be wrong.

Dish Network is thinking way outside the box with their latest business venture. They are actually getting into the iPhone repair business. Dish's Executive VP of Operations, John Swieringa, explains that Dish technicians are "uniquely positioned with the technical know-how" to fix broken screens and batteries for iPhones. As you can see in the graphic in the thread below, Dish will repair any iPhone from the iPhone 5C forward, and their prices are fairly competitive.

Dish has also shared they are planning to provide repairs to other devices in the coming months. Whether that means they will work on older models of the iPhone, or they plan to offer Android repair too, is unclear at this time.

The latest intel from the rumormonger @evleaks might be intriguing for fans of Android Wear devices. Supposedly HTC is working on finally launching their own Android Wear smartwatch in June of this year. Of course, this rumor has been floating around for quite some time, and the dates keep getting pushed back into vaporware land.

Technically HTC already released a pseudo-smartwatch. They teamed up with Under Armor on the UA Band fitness tracker. Of course, this rumored device will be a true Android Wear smartwatch instead of just a fitness band, if the rumors are accurate. We will keep an eye out because an HTC smartwatch could be something cool to behold. It has the potential to have some unique and premium aesthetics.

This was a bit of a shock from out of left field late yesterday. Intel announced they will be cancelling their SoFIA platform and the next gen Broxton chips. That basically means they have effectively killed the Atom processor, which has been struggling to make any headway in the mobile world.

Intel did not clarify if this means they are exiting the mobile market altogether or if they are simply planning to move in a different direction with some unknown future tech. The principal reason for Intel's lack of success in the mobile chipset market isn't even just the heavy competition from Qualcomm, Samsung and MediaTek in the space. The fact of the matter is that the Atom chipset never lived up to Intel's media hype in performance or battery efficiency.

Now we are left wondering about future and current tech that utilizes the Atom processor. What does this mean for various mid-range smartphones and the upcoming Microsoft HoloLens? Apparently, they will need something new to power them in the future. Will it be Samsung, Qualcomm or someone else entirely?

For Microsoft at least, retooling the HoloLens for something shouldn't be too tough. In fact, most of the current rumint indicates that Microsoft was already planning on using Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 830 for the Surface Phone. If they are already partnered up with Qualcomm on this device, it seems like it would be easy to replace the internals of the HoloLens with a Qualcomm chipset. This is...

Here's a decent deal alert for a Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 16 GB Wifi Android tablet. Amazon knocked $50 off the normal price, bringing this solid tablet down to a very affordable $199.99. Here's a recap of specs for this Sammy tab:
  • Qualcomm Tablet Processor 1.2 GHz
  • 1.5GB RAM
  • Spacious and bright 9.6-inch screen
  • Long battery life; stream video for up to 12 hours before recharging(2)
  • Sleek, portable design
  • 16 GB(3) internal storage with up to 128 GB expandable storage(1)
  • Front and rear cameras for photos and video chat
  • Kids Mode offers a safe and secure experience for children
  • Premium, complimentary apps from Samsung Galaxy Essentials
  • Fresh and innovative audio from Milk Music
  • Samsung+ app for an optimized tablet experience
If you compare this to the NVIDIA Shield tablet at the same price, this deal obviously falters. It has less RAM and a slower CPU & GPU combo. Still, some folks might prefer a Samsung device for various reasons, so we decided to share it: Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6" 16 GB Wifi (Black): Computers & Accessories.

Sprint released their most recent financial report, and it's mostly good news for the Now Network. The biggest take away from their report is that they posted their first annual profit in 9 years! Sprint’s operating income grew 36% when comparing 2015 to 2014.

Another surprise is that Sprint actually out-performed AT&T and Verizon in postpaid additions in the fourth quarter of 2015, with Sprint adding 447,000 postpaid customers. This brought Sprint's yearly total up to 1.2 million, which is also the third consecutive quarter of positive postpaid additions.

It will be interesting to see if Sprint can keep this momentum going. T-Mobile is a competitive force to be reckoned with in the US mobile carrier market at the moment. Plus, if AT&T and Verizon seriously decided to start getting more competitive, it would be tough for Sprint to keep these trends.

JCase and TheRoot.Ninja team have released S-Off for the HTC 10 prior to the phone's release! For now the app will only S-Off your HTC 10. You will still need to unlock the bootloader using the HTCdev website. This is still big news as S-Off allows you to flash whatever you like to the phone. This means you will be able to run any Rom you choose.

Unlocked HTC 10 units should be shipping this week. If you decide to go ahead and S-Off your device you should know that once you are S-Offed if you change the lock status or the s-on/s-off status the phone won't be able to decrypt data until you wipe your data.

The full S-OFF sunshine app PSA can be found here.

Huawei has really made a name for themselves in the US over the past year. They became a household name here in the states with the release of the Nexus 6p. They have taken the momentum and released a few more popular devices including the Honor 5X and the GX8. The only thing that I don't love about these phones is the EMUI Android skin overlay.

If you, like me, are not a huge fan of the EMUI software you can change that with the new Android N theme! This theme is fully compatible with both EMUI 3.1 and EMUI 4.0. The theme includes A large palette of N icons, Android N design, and more. To install download the zip file from the link below, unzip the file and place the .hwt file in HWThemes and apply it in the Themes app. Then just restart your device.

When the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were announced at Samsung's unpacked event I was pretty surprised to hear that they would release with micro usb charge ports. It seems the main reason the phones came with micro usb was to maintain compatibility with the current generation of Samsung Gear VR. This means that while devices like the HTC 10 and LG G5 both released with USB Type-C Samsung decided to stick with an older tech.

SamMobile confirmed today that the Galaxy Note 6 will release with USB Type-C. This means that Note 6 users will enjoy a fully reversible charge cord experience as well as faster charging and data transfer speeds. We can also assume that since the Note 6 will come with Type-C we will likely also see a Type-C Gear VR. Hopefully they will also come free with pre-orders.
