The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

What's with all the negativity. Just get your hopes up for dec 8. If it comes out then great. If it doesn't,so what, we've gone through dissapearing release dates before.

1 more thing. There are no rumored release dates besides dec 8. Dec11 is the only one hear and that is only 3 days after. Maybe if we heard a rumor for the 15th then id be scared, but we have not.

Some people call it negativity, and some call it being a realist. We've followed this pattern for what, 3 weeks or more now? History tends to repeat itself.

This has already been discussed but I will mention it again. Someone leaks a rumored release date. The following week, on the supposed date that it's supposed to be release, we all say "Gee, no Nexus." Then, that very SAME day, a rumored leak for a release date for the following week is then posted. It has happened I think literally every week for about a month now.

So although I truly do hope this phone drops on the 8th, there are some things that throw up a red flag.

1. No release date mentioned. All VZW employees are clueless. You would think that they would at least KNOW about the phone when it supposed to be 6 days from release. Not to mention, you would think the general public would know.

2. We've been through this many times in previous weeks.

And like I said, I really, truly hope it does release next week on the 8th. However, at this point, I'm going to guarantee myself that it won't, so it won't cause me another letdown.

I can't just pretend its all gumdrops and unicorns in a perfect utopia when everyone is absolutely clueless 6 days prior to a supposed release date.

And yes, I do hope I have to eat my words...

We have no proof that vzw is not ready. The only thing you guys know is that they didn't announce it yet. Their is stilla few days to announce a preorder for the phone. A preorder can be 3-4 days no problem.

i'm calling it now... not happening on the 8th

on a sad note, and yes i never listen to verizon sales guys, but one told me he was hearing Q1. i know they are pushing the razer, but still. and i agree, if it was really a week away. we would all know it by now. end up dec at best, in time for xmas. jan at worst.

i have to fly out on the 12th, and was really hoping to have a nexus to play with on the plane and some 4g on my trip. but i don't see it happening. i think we should all give up... has anyone scrolled thru verizon's time line on twitter? every other @ is someone *griping about the nexus. no way they wouldn't give up a date by now if it really was the 8th.

blah

Since our thread has slowed a bit here at DF, I suggest everyone check out this: Pre-Release - Relevant Info Thread - Android Forums

This is strictly a rumor at this point (as is everything else we know), but he seems legit and has reignited my excitement for the Nexus to drop soon.

I also learned from that thread that Google Voice will be integrated into the ICS call log. Pretty awesome. Notice the play button below for Anand. Seems as though we won't need a dedicated Voice app.

In the latest update (last night I believe) Google updated the Verizon Nexus to ICS 4.1 and they apparently fixed 99% of the bugs that were holding back release, plus they added a completely new screensaver mode:

Thanks to our beloved P3Droid :)

My 2 cents:

1. Verizon has no motivation to release this phone sooner versus later. Every tech blog I read is filled with speculation on when the Nexus will be released and comments / discussion about the phone. Verizon and Google have everyones' attention with this release and they are getting millions of dollars of FREE publicity. Think about how much it would cost to purchase this type of media saturation? If I was Verizon, I'd ride the wave and let the anticipation build.

2. The Razor and Rezound are selling well. After the holidays, there will be drop-off in sales since the gift-giving season will be over. Why not give the sales chain a boost of adrenaline after the holidays with a highly anticipated phone release.

3. I want to believe Verizon is trying to get the phone right, no surprises at release. Consequently, they are taking their time during the field testing cycle prior to release.

Just my opinions/observations. Not even sure I want this phone. However, it is time to retire my D1.

All these are great signs and I was doubting last month when none of these things were happening. I am still VERY skeptical of an 8th release date.. It should be announced by now and even the Rezound with no preorder was announced on the 3rd for a 14th release date. Not trying to depress people but keeping it real.

I'm feeling pretty good about that December 8th date. I figure Best Buy is not selling them until the 11th because they seem to do Sunday-Saturday promotions, so they'd want to start on Sunday rather than Thursday.

I think is tough to make a comparison just because things with a Nexus device just don't happen the same was as a typical VZW device. The announcement for the Rezound that you are talking about was during the promo event by HTC, right? That already throws a wrench into the works because the OEM got to announce the launch date, but in this case the carrier wanted to be stingy and wouldn't let Google say anything about it. I don't know that I have ever seen VZW actually "announce" a launch date on their own, it seems like it has always been that they finally set one, it leaks far enough down that people let it slip out and the community gets a pretty good idea of when it's coming and then 2 or 3 days before the actual drop we might see 1 or 2 commercials with a date on them. I remember there were commerials with a release date on them for the bionic 3-4 days before it dropped and people were still on here questioning if it would really release on that date or not and VZW store reps were saying they couldn't confirm the date on the commercial.

Plus, Best Buy shipments are usual Fridays, as I understand it, so that would also make sense why they would miss the 8th. So again, the 11th or 12th makes sense.
