I don't feel like searching through the pages.

Does anyone have the link on hand for rooting my future baby? :icon_ lala:

No, you cannot tap the lock image to unlock the bootoader. The full process can be found here. It's incredibly simple and should only take a few minutes.

And yes, technically rooting voids your warranty, but unrooting will re-instate your warranty as well. Verizon has no way to know that you ever rooted your phone.

It was just a few posts up!

Technically, I think unlocking the bootloader is what wipes the devices, isn't it? I think you can root whenever you want without wiping (as long as you've already unlocked the bootloader). Can someone confirm?

Yeah rooting shouldn't erase the device, unlocking the bootloader will. My question is if you root you will still get OTAs right? I dont plan on running any custom ROMs on my Nexus, but definitely plan to theme it a little...

Noob question - once rooted is the device still running stock ics? I promised myself I wouldn't dive right into the rom/kernel scene for a while because I just want a phone that works for a bit. However I'm really going to miss titanium backup.

Other noob question: I currently have the unlimited plan but I thought I read vzw will throttle the crap out of you if you go over 2gb of data while on the plan. Would it make sense to utilize the double data promotion (if still available) to get 4gb a month of throttle free data with the purchase of my fancy new nexus?

In short yes, you can root and still be on stock ics.

From what I understand they do not throttle at 2gb. They began throttling the top 5% (I think) of their 3g users several months ago but you would have to be WAY over 2gb to be in that top 5%. So no, do not switch to a tiered plan voluntarily.

I'm sure everyone picked up on the white Verizon box that says verizon and the other picture with the brown box around it that says galaxy nexus. I know people were complaining about the box but they made it look like an ICS. Very cool i think. Just an fyi for people that didn't notice. If everyone did my bad

Yes, once you unlock the bootloader you will still be running stock ics. Nothing will change, the bootloader will just be unlocked so you can install a recovery, install custom roms or put custom apps on your phone.

Yes, see my link a couple posts above.

Poor choice of words on my part. I meant unlocking instead of rooting, but in terms of this device I believe they're interchangeable. Once you unlock the device, it's already rooted.

Edit: I think the link and instructions I posted previously only unlock the bootloader. If you want root as well, you'll need to flash superboot instead of fastboot. Explained here. This is for the GMS Nexus but will be the same or very similar for our Nexus.

Edit part 2: This is straight from the horses mouth, Paul Obrien. For the LTE Galaxy Nexus.

Ehh, I don't think that's the case either. Unlocking the bootloader is a prerequisite for rooting but it doesn't actually give you root access. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to boot an insecure boot.img which has permanent root for that one boot session, which enables you to transfer the su binary and Superuser.apk to the device. Simply unlocking the bootloader won't give you the rights needed to perform the tasks commonly associated with rooting (ie. themes, custom ROMs, etc.).

Yeah, I updated my post with links.

Nice and easy!

Im going to buy accessories from Verizon. From the living social death I got 50$ to waste. unfortunately accessories are wayyyy to overpriced. Ex-3 screen protectors for $15.

Holy Mackeral. That was a lot of reading to do from last night. At this rate, forget 3k, we'll hit 4k by the time this puppy comes out. Two things,

1- If most of the delays are caused by Verizon, do you think we will ever see a Nexus phone on big red ever again.

2- Do you think that we will get promotional t-shirts and decals like the British dude got in the unboxing video. I'd like a T-shirt. :-)
