The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

My friend, the one who told me they have a mandatory meeting on the 8th about new phone releases, said they usually get 1-2 days to train on new phones. He said that he is going to text me after their meeting on the morning of the 8th, to tell me when it's coming out. As long as THEY find out at that meeting. I will post what I find out.

If you look in the fine print of most of the leaked docs, it says, "PSYCH!" Seriously, this is like the freaking twilight zone...twisted!

I didn't feel like digging through the posts I missed last night so I don't know if that has been posted yet. Sorry in advance.

Here's another look at the white retail box, this time with the Verizon branding shown.

Amazing how much talk a rumor can lead too. Took me a while to catch up from all the posts after I went to bed last night!

To another day of Galaxy Nexus rumors that will all leave us feeling depressed!! *CHEERS*

So when you boot up the phone there is that little button at the bottom that you can tap to unlock the boot loader. I am assuming this voids your warranty. Can you root without unlocking the boot loader?

No, you cannot tap the lock image to unlock the bootoader. The full process can be found here. It's incredibly simple and should only take a few minutes.

And yes, technically rooting voids your warranty, but unrooting will re-instate your warranty as well. Verizon has no way to know that you ever rooted your phone.

FYI to those on the fence about rooting. This should be the very first thing you do when you get your Nexus because rooting it will wipe the device completely clean.

Noob question - once rooted is the device still running stock ics? I promised myself I wouldn't dive right into the rom/kernel scene for a while because I just want a phone that works for a bit. However I'm really going to miss titanium backup.

Other noob question: I currently have the unlimited plan but I thought I read vzw will throttle the crap out of you if you go over 2gb of data while on the plan. Would it make sense to utilize the double data promotion (if still available) to get 4gb a month of throttle free data with the purchase of my fancy new nexus?

Technically, I think unlocking the bootloader is what wipes the devices, isn't it? I think you can root whenever you want without wiping (as long as you've already unlocked the bootloader). Can someone confirm?
