i narrowed it down to even framework-res.apk or the .jar files that are causing the issue, maybe if you figure it out you can kinda share how/what it was,id love to learn

Have you tried just dropping the launcher into /system/app with root explorer and changing permission on it?

The launcher doesn't work at all on the Moto Droid. I think it looks good, so I wanna play with it for a bit

It gets an instant FC and from what I saw on XDA, something about missing drawables relating to default wallpaper.

Did they mention a fix?

Unfortunately, no. If you have time, mind looking into it
