The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

Business is about profit, and unless their margins are higher on these two over the GNex, all they are doing is cannibalizing profits from the GNex in favor of the other two - i.e., the total profit off these three remains constant no matter when they release. And I would venture to guess that the profit margin is about equal on these three phones.

They actually do have a higher profit margin on the Rezound and RAZR. Verizon receives money from the apps that come preloaded on the Rezound and RAZR. So Verizon actually loves the fact that the RAZR and Rezound users are forced to have Let's Play Golf 2 (or whatever it's called). Not to mention with VCAST and everything else loaded on the R/R, they're hoping to score even more money from you.

I too believe the date is going to be the 8th, but I also think it is smart for Verizon to attempt to unload some stock before adding on another new device. This is just from the business angle. From my angle... I want it now!

I'd like to believe that, but I just can't, given Verizon's recent track record. I find it hard to believe that all of the sudden they care about quality control. They've made it clear in the past that they don't. I think this is about bottom-line profits. Just like any company. They just care about signing up as many people as possible on 2-yr contracts.

Oh yeah, I don't doubt that for a second. I also think that deep down vzw truly wants this to be there first and last Nexus device - these idiots just can't have openness

But, at the same token, I really believed the money hungry idiots at vzw REALLY blew this one! If they would have marketed this right they could have made this like the Super Bowl of phone releases! If only they would have really played up the whole "exclusive to Verizon" and "NEW Android OS" angle and then (here's the biggie) ... KEPT US INFORMED!!! And I am not talking release date informed, just plain ole informed! "Hey all, Nexus tests going real well! Stayed tuned for more info" kinda crap. Just suspense building kinda stuff. Make people wanna be interested. BUT - they are Verizon LOL

I think Google should start a wireless carrier :) They'd Conquer the Airwaves!! lmao

Yes, but being a solid company, they also know that poor quality control leads to less customers. And, as I stated above so eloquently, their bottom-line profits (for this year) will be a constant pretty much no matter when they release. In fact, it behooves them to release by the 15th, as after that profits will start shifting to next year, and no company would sacrifice profit this year for next.

That is the truth. They dont care if your phone is buggy you are now stuck with a 2yr contract and you can either keep getting buggy refurbs or by a new one off contract. Either way vzw profit and you keep shelling out dollars.

See above. But additionally, I would theorize that there are a set number of people that STRONGLY want the GNex and are currently on other carriers, and will switch no matter when it is released. So growth of their customer base is independant of when they release. But again, as above, some growth will be this year and some next the later in December they release. So again, this points to releasing no later than the 15th. But I still stand by my guess of the 8th.

Going to vz today for my sis. Let ya know how my sly convincing skills are. Next to none imo but still going to try. lol least ill get to play with some phones.

Sent from a bubble gum factory because im all out of gum.

Ya know, the more I think of it the more I agree. Would it be safe to say that the Nexus is the most anticipated phone since the Thunderbolt (branded as the first LTE device)? The TBolt dropped and was plagued by several MAJOR BUGS! Everyone was up and arms saying that it (the TBolt) was not ready and should not have been released ... perhaps vzw is trying to prevent de javu???? May be they are being overly cautious, who knows - but, being an early owner of the TBolt I know I rather not go through that again!

Just saying

No matter what phone comes out there will be those that can't handle the phone or have problems. Go to any forum and you will find those complaining about something. I also got the Thunderbolt early and never had a problem with it except for Verizons network at times. Actually it's been the best phone I've owned to date compared to D1, D2, DX...

TBolt is def a great device, don't get me wrong. But the initial reboot issues, horrendous battery life and the GPS that couldn't lock were huge problems when it first launched. I'd imagine that these are the kinds of things vzw will try to prevent in the future (I hope anyway).

The only issue I had was the gps issue. That was due to the network. I can't wait for the Nexus to hurry and come out though.
