Freedom! The first Nexus on VZW aka the unlocked revolution!

BAH! Verizon's revolution is more like an unorganzied riot. And unlocked? If I so desired (and I'm thinking about it), I could drive 30 minutes, spend about $750.00 USD and have a true unlocked, global GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus with no two year agreement. Now that's freedom! The more I think about it...........

Vehicle Dock video. Wow.

Looking forward to permanently (hidden and clean) running a charging and audio cable to the car mount. That audio jack is a great feature. Also the metal prongs being able to do power and audio? WTHeck... that's some cool tech there. I'm sure it has been around and in other stuff, but this is the first time I've seen something like this. That makes it so easy to put in and out without pushing in hdmi/microusb ends

Damn, that dock looks sick! I like that the usb and audio jack are on the base.

I mean unlocked as in the bootloader for custom kernals etc! If you get the GSM version, I think you will also get a different set of dev's and roms no?

*Does the I got to play with the Nexus dance*

Yup apparantly we spent a couple billion or so with Verizon last year and they sent us one. The guy in IT knew I was waiting for it so it brought it up to let me play with (thanks Matt!). I am sold 100%. The display is perfect. You can see a little of the Pentile display in a green window when we were watching a netfix window but you really had to look for it. The screen swipe sideways takes some getting used to as well as the side power button. The camera is fabulous for a phone. 100 times better then the droid. I simply cannot believe I got to play with it.. He also said the 4G was faster then his home at 33/16mbs. The battery worries me some. 20% in 15 minutes with the auto adjust brightness on. OUCH! Doesn't matter, I am sold. I will carry around a car battery in a backpack if need be. So crisp and smooth. He said he was going to write a review on it so I will direct you to it when he does.

Very nice lucky.. you guys must do CAD work I see some mechanical drawings, for a kitchen? I do design build work for plumbing and mechanical.

Don't forget this, straight from the horse's mouth.

A direct quote from Verizon: "The Galaxy Nexus will be available later this year in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores." Not early next year, but later this year. So I say no on January, we will have the Nexus by December 31st at the latest.

I bet Dec 8 is the date. Vz won't wait til after the holidays. That would be stupid. Just because they have waited this long doesn't mean they will wait til after the prime time to sell a phone. That's just logic.

Agree. Plus, I don't buy the "must sell more Razr's and Rezounds". Business is about profit, and unless their margins are higher on these two over the GNex, all they are doing is cannibalizing profits from the GNex in favor of the other two - i.e., the total profit off these three remains constant no matter when they release. And I would venture to guess that the profit margin is about equal on these three phones. And I would actually say it hurts the bottom line, since a lot of people are "renting" these two phones, and I doubt the $35 restocking fee covers what they will lose in selling the returns on these two as refurbs.

I strongly believe that the "delay" is all about finalizing some of their software that can't be installed as bloatware (VVM, which was just released, as an example). They also didn't get the SDK until late November, so I'm sure they had planned on the time to do software for ICS. And, with the announced bugs, wanted to wait til a very stable release, which just happened yesterday.

So my guess is they have been targeting the 8th, but didn't want to announce as this was not firm. The only question is if they are set on a certain number of days for pre-order, if any at all. So I'm betting on the 8th as is seems everything is falling in place, though it could be the 15th if they want a little more comfort zone.

Just my opinion, but this is what logic and business sense dictates.

Ya know, the more I think of it the more I agree. Would it be safe to say that the Nexus is the most anticipated phone since the Thunderbolt (branded as the first LTE device)? The TBolt dropped and was plagued by several MAJOR BUGS! Everyone was up and arms saying that it (the TBolt) was not ready and should not have been released ... perhaps vzw is trying to prevent de javu???? May be they are being overly cautious, who knows - but, being an early owner of the TBolt I know I rather not go through that again!

Just saying

Yes, you are right, I would have a different set of ROMs and developers......let's see, how about straight from Google? However, I was talking about carriers and Verizon's lower level of support for people who travel overseas regularly. When I signed-up with Verizon, I didn't.....now I do. I'd like to have a cutting-edge Android phone and even though Verizon's network in the US is great, I can't get the phone I want with Verizon and have it work outside the US. :frown:

I'd like to believe that, but I just can't, given Verizon's recent track record. I find it hard to believe that all of the sudden they care about quality control. They've made it clear in the past that they don't. I think this is about bottom-line profits. Just like any company. They just care about signing up as many people as possible on 2-yr contracts.

That is the truth. They dont care if your phone is buggy you are now stuck with a 2yr contract and you can either keep getting buggy refurbs or by a new one off contract. Either way vzw profit and you keep shelling out dollars.

Its rediculous that we don't have a release date. Don't they want us to buy the phone? Yes I know they want to sell the razr but they don't even inform customers about the phone
