We need a Dock application

The Dock screen that comes up is just too bright and fairly ugly.

Since it's charging all the time why not make a dock screen that looks great isn't too bright and has some animation?

I'd love a dock replacement.

I have two Docks.. one my my computer and one at my bedside.

The screen is too bright and ugly. Is there a way to change it? I am looking for a new Dock Theme... something that replaces the washed out bright (supposedly dim) one that they have now.

are you talking about an app that runs the dock mode or a new dock THEME?

When you get the 2.1 upgrade there will be a different "Dock" screen, much nicer and dimmable just like the main screen instead of just putting a weird background over it.

Is there a way to upgrade it now rather than waiting? I don't want to upgrade to the full 2.1 just the Dock application.

I wish, I have been trying to find a way or someone who can set it up. No luck so far.

You can see it breifly in the Droid w/2.1 ROM youtube video.

Here is screen capture in portrait mode, looks VERY nice!!

FYI, the backround for the new version is whatever your wallpaper is.

you do know if it's to bright you can simply short press the power button and the display turns off, right?

that kind of defeats the purpose..

however, there are two brightnesses as it is. I'm not sure if the OP realizes that. I don't like the dim version at all, but at least it's an alternative.

that depends on what the purpose of the dock is for you. for me it's just a nice charging cradle and it's nice to use as an alarm clock. if you are going to sleep why does the display need to be on? when else other than when you're trying to sleep is the screen going to be to bright?

Omg I know what you mean. I am fairly blind without my glasses and it's way too bright in the regular mode but I can't see the time when I dim it. :( lol

That picture is funny because THAT is exactly my wallpaper now... lol

I like it as a bedside clock with the weather and such. If I wanted a charger I could use a plug.

There are two modes... normal which is quite bright, and slightly less bright but ugly. I'm not sure which is more disruptive. I usually keep it on less bright when sleeping.

I think they can do better.

docklauncher in the market lets you change what's launched in the dock to whatever you want. There are other clocks out there you can launch instead with it.
