The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

Hello everyone, I've been following this thread for awhile now. I found this ad right below while I was on facebook and the phone on the left looks like the galaxy nexus. I took a clip and then zoom in with a picture program and looks like the galaxy nexus to me. I've not sure if other members have seen this ad on their facebook but its facebook official.View attachment 43144

Hey guys. I've attached a couple of pictures from when I was playing with the nexus in NYC earlier tonight. I was using my og droid... so they came out pretty awful. Going to upload the videos I have too once I figure out how to. My friend's iphone should also have a video of me logging into DF and typing my hilariously misspelled message. Once she emails it to me I'll upload that too and we can all laugh at me. In my defense they were closing in like 10 minutes and I wanted to play with the phone more

Edit : Alright.... videos are uploaded to youtube. Going to try and embed them into the post (I've never done this before so if it doesn't work I'll fix it tomorrow morning.) Sorry for the pretty awful quality of these... again used the og droid camera for the video. I really didn't even know what to do with the thing once I finally got my hands on it so sorry if they're boring.

If no one else has done it... then sure! lol. And it only makes sense that I managed to screw it up with typos. hahaha.

Im jealous. It would be cool to play on it but i live in az so it would have been quite the drive just to play for a phone for 10min. Lol, im getting that desperate to get one though. Cut the chord and run man. :biggrin:

Living in AZ won't stop me! The only thing that will stop me is NYC...the population is too dense there. I hope this realeases sooner than later, I'd at least like to get reviews from people who've had the phone for about a week or so before I get mine...I keep telling myself I'll wait, but I think I might be a day one adopter...

This. My only real concern. The only other not so real concern I have is the Pentile. Moto has scarred me, but I know it will be nothing like that so I am not truly concerned.

i dont have any concerns. I know, besides for the safety, that this WILL be a major major major upgrade from my droid 1. Im looking forwards to getting an ice cream sammywich (which i am amazed i was the first to say)

thats awesome. i saw when you tried to put it in landscape it wouldnt go. could that be optional? i actualy like it that there may not be a landscape mode in homescreen.

Coming from the droid I thought it felt very good. It wasn't cheap/plastic/brittle or anything. I took the battery cover off and was pretty rough snapping it back in and had 0 problems.

The display is nothing like the bionic so no worries. You have to really look for the pentile effect.

Haha you sound like my friend. She said "grab the bolt cutters. problem solved" She also asked the guy near the phones 4 times when I could buy it and he said the international unlocked version is technically on amazon for ~$800, then gave 2 slightly different answers for Verizon's availability. First he said there is not a planned release date yet for this phone then he revised it and said "should be soon... probably before christmas".

I thought the screen was gorgeous. I've seen the bionic's and I wasn't too impressed but I didn't see any pixelation on the nexus (I also didn't hold the thing an inch from my face) but I remember even the bionic's screen I could see blocks on the clock and battery icons from a normal use distance. The nexus screen was very crisp and the colors were very vibrant imo.

The physical body of the thing was different. It definitely does not feel like my og droid. The og droid is heavy but its very solid feeling. When I picked up the nexus it was almost like it wasn't there - it felt that light in comparison. I suppose you could say the phone feels "plasticy" but it felt really good in the hand and didn't feel cheap. The texture was plastic instead of that cold metal feeling from the droid if that makes any sense. I liked the buttons on the sides much better than on the droid. They have a definitive 'click' to them when pressed and were pretty firm. Then again I don't remember how the droid's felt when it was new but needless to say, the 2 buttons on the side of it felt good.

I was afraid of this but the camera did feel pretty meh. Without the flash in the store it looked fine. The images were pretty crisp looking, the colors looked ok, and the zero lag shutter feature is pretty fantastic. When I enabled the flash though it was discoloring everything. I don't know if that can be fixed with some of the settings or maybe a patch or maybe even just a side effect of the reflective white surface the phones were sitting on. I don't know. But it didn't leave me going OMG WOW thats awesome.

Yea I tried to put it into landscape and it didn't want to do it. When the camera app is enabled it flips the touchscreen buttons to landscape mode but while using the phone normally it wouldn't rotate. I honestly don't know if there is a setting for it - I didn't look.

On stock ROM, you cant rotate homescreens, but there are already mods from ppl like P3 to have it rotate.
