Breaking News Samsung issues Note 7's official death note in the US

Samsung and the consumer safety agency said stop using the phones they have deemed it unsafe.... they are trying to protect consumers... why would they be sued for that?

Whether it be or not I can understand Samsung's position. All they need is someone who did not return it to have an issue and here we go again with the publicity.
Yeah Samsung has legally done their all and those using it should be held responsible. But at the end of the day in this sue happy world somehow Samsung will find themselves in the middle. So for their interests they need to do all they can to try and gather all 100% or make them inactive so to prevent any future incidences.
Jeffrey you give me a break. How many "legitimate" replacement devices have caught fire since the recall? The media has a long history of blowing sh!t out.of proportion....and with social media thrown into the mix the last few years, it hasn't helped matters. People are so quick to believe everything they hear, without actually looking into things and making an informed decision. It's sad really.
But that's just me.

Though you make a good point the reality is that Samsung decided it was best to remove them from the market and go as far as making it mandatory.
Yeah you are right, since the recall we still have note 7s in the field and no more reports of incidences of them catching fire. So the recall may have been premature. But Samsung with regards to their legal team made the decision. Plus it is not like airports and air carriers are going to remove the ban or stop reminding us that they are banned from flight.
Look at the end of the day if a person choose to keep the device even with all the warnings then they know the risks and as long as they do not have it on in flight I'm good. Samsung is doing everything they are required to do to keep them from being liable per their lawyers. At this point it is going to be on the person to decide if they want to hold on to a device that has been recalled and will no longer be supported (via updates) by the manufacturer, carrier, or Google.
I also don't think it necessary to deem a person incompetent if they keep the device knowing the risks as long as they are aware of the places that have banned them.
How about this analogy: your car is recalled because of exploding airbags. You decline the invitation to take your car back to the repair place because you dont see the need. Is the car manufacturer then entitled to steal your car from your driveway, take it some place to install airbags and bring it back several days later and drop it in your driveway with a note saying "we did it for your own good"?

We aren't talking about a car, we're talking about a phone and a recall that was done to save face. A recall that was done before all the facts were in. A recall on replacement devices that weren't catching fire. A recall due to dozens of bogus claims.
I'm fine with the recall, but don't make it mandatory. Take ALL of the facts into consideration, not just SOME.

That's not what it's about. If someone elects to keep the Note 7 and it does catch fire and burns down a house or perhaps an apartment building, I would think that person is responsible. Especially if someone is hurt or dies.
The recall is about being responsible and protecting the wellbeing of you and others.

Exactly!!!.... IT'S A PHONE!!!! why are we all getting so passionate and debating the details and what if's. The Note 7 was an awesome phone now it's no longer supported... look forward to newer and better devices that we all know 2017 will offer!
