Breaking News Samsung issues Note 7's official death note in the US

We aren't talking about a car, we're talking about a phone and a recall that was done to save face. A recall that was done before all the facts were in. A recall on replacement devices that weren't catching fire. A recall due to dozens of bogus claims.
I'm fine with the recall, but don't make it mandatory. Take ALL of the facts into consideration, not just SOME.

None of that really matters. The manufacturer recalled the product. It's a potential risk and Sammy did the right thing.

My Pixel XL will be here on Monday. If I wanted to keep my Note 7 I could because I have all updates blocked. I can still charge to 100%. I am just saying where in the contract do they say they can cut your phone off at anytime other then late or no bill payment or broken contract? If the phone is not being used for any illegal means they can not just turn it off.

Chris, I'm in total agreement with you and D and her right to keep using the phone as long as she wishes. My car analogy was just that - an effort to say where do we draw the line at what is permissible for a manufacturer to do to enforce their recall demand. I've said it before, I don't believe what Samsung is attempting to do is *legal* in the US and they could find themselves in court trying to defend their "Father knows best" attitude towards adult American consumers who purchased a product which has worked perfectly and have no desire to return it for a refund or replacement.

Those who were strongly against the recall (Note 7 people) how about a segment to hear your side. I sense this need to express. So I'm thinking either Sunday or Monday evening what works best for you guys?

Though I say it as kind of a joke I am actually serious because this topic is a microcosm of similar strong debates I have seen take place on DL and other sites so I feel like taking a moment to flush that out (without me going all Steven A Smith on you guys).

And if you are down hit me up or let me know, oh and save some of the energy for then.

It is all media that played a big part in the demise of the Note 7. iPhone's had the same issue. Since the media is not putting it out there like they did the Note 7 people are not acting in fear with the iPhone 6 and 7's like they did with the Note 7. iPhone catches on fire on a plane , No ban, catches on fire in someones home no recall, catches on fire on a persons pocket, No recall and no news report's. As I said before. My phone got hot once and the safety measures kicked in and it shut down. No issues with my Note 7 and I know many others that are not having any issues with there phones. If my Pixel was not going to come next week, I will still be happy and and feel safe with this phone until I got the next phone.

Just stop with the "it's the media!!...big mean media" stuff.... Samsung declared the device unsafe... no one else! They did the recall... they admitted there is a dangerous issue!
Yes other manufacturers have seen fires and battery issues and none of them felt the need to label their devices unsafe and recall them.
Those are facts people!

I guess we have to disagree on this one. Yes Samsung recalled it. The media played a big part in the fear it caused. Why haven't the media done the same with Apple?

Umm... hmmm... maybe because Apple hasn't set up an entire webpage stating their device is dangerous... unsafe... and should be powered down immediately!
[emoji848][emoji848][emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] maybe???

Samsung voluntarily issues a recall because they thought it best business practice. If other manufacturers that have the same problems decide not to voluntarily issue a recall doesn't mean that their product is safe. It only means they decided not to issue a recall. Manufacturers knowingly allow a dangerously defective item remain in consumers hands and continue to sell them for as long as possible before a recall is forced on them. It happens more offered than not.

How about this analogy: your car is recalled because of exploding airbags. You decline the invitation to take your car back to the repair place because you dont see the need. Is the car manufacturer then entitled to steal your car from your driveway, take it some place to install airbags and bring it back several days later and drip it in your driveway with a note saying "we did it for your own good"?

How about I do have a recall on exploding airbags and Ford won't replace them because the parts are on backorder. Have been for years. I haven't died.

I'll buy a note 7 and use it daily. There were a couple issues with some. Media blew it out and Samsung had to react. Can this topic die now?

PC747, this one of mine is sort of pearl grey but always in a black ruberized case so I tend to forget it's true color.
