Home Replacement Apps = Completely new phone experience.

I am using the GDE replacement with the White HTC theme.

One word: amazing.

Still a bit of lag in the screen switching (turned off the cube due to graphic glitches)

But WELL worth the money!

alrighty

I'm trying the Panda Droid Beta right now. I really like some of the features that Panda has. If they get it nice and stable on the Droid then it may win me over.

I've tried it, and I'm still biased to GDE, mainly bc Panda doesn't have a locked bottom dock for calls and such, and the multiscreen feature isn't available yet.

I'll download Pandahome in a bit to try it out. I really like GDE so far and the lag really doesnt bother be, Im using the "Fade" transition and like it the best. I really lik ethe Dock widget.

You guys should install "Better Cut" and then go to Icon Archive - 26,400+ free icons, buddy icons, xp icons, vista icons, desktop icons, aim icons and download a set of icons (they will be in .png format) and put them on your SD card. Then you can change any Icon you want. Im using the "Buuf" icon set I downloaded. It has 1500 icons. In OpenHome and such when you install an Icon pack it only changes certain Icons, not all. With Better Cut even Contact shortcuts, Web Shortcuts can have a custom Icon.

Yeah I do REALLY like having the dedicated call button and the other option to the right and the transitions are pretty sexy on GDE but I can't help but notice how much smoother Panda seems to run.

What do you mean by multiscreen not available?

Just tried it and it is available. The "Settings" part of it isn't so you can't go into it and pick 5 screens or whatever, but try this:

Go to your left or right screen in panda, long press and hold an icon to drag it, now drag it to the outside (left side of left screen or right side of right screen) and hold it there for just a second. BAM new screen on that side :D

Multiscreen works just fine on panda. Personally, I'm going back to the standard home screen for now, panda is lagging my system kinda badly and isnt playing nicely with beautiful widgets, although that just may be the widget itself.

First impressions though, when the final code is released, pandahome will definitely be my first choice. I wish the screen rotation would be as fast and accurate as it normally is on the main home screen, and it tends to be a little touchy with panda. Multiscreen is wonderful though. I have 5 screens up and running. Also, while im on the subject, is there an android 2.0 theme for panda?

Aside from that, I'm loving the sort features for the drawer for all the apps, definitely a nice touch, and the side bars and quick menu works flawlessly.

I cant wait for tomorrow!!

Damn, it's not lagging mine at all :( I also haven't noticed any Beautiful Widget issues. Can you tell me which specific widget is acting screwy for you? Also, did you actually get the Droid beta? I installed "PandaHome for Droid" and when it asked whether I wanted the Beta or Stable, I chose Beta. You may have a slightly older version depending on what you picked. Mine also rotates just fine and fairly quick.

To get the default Android theme, change it to "Default Theme"

I like how I can hide Amazon MP3, Facebook, and a few others I don't use but can't delete.

The main widget is having a weird issue where the last minute keeps flickering back and forth between the current time and a minute before.

I specifically downloaded the droid beta through the app then the browser, and im using the latest update. The phone just seems to be laggier than usual when flipping through screens and such. The orientation is not nearly as accurate as it is on the default droid home and i find myself in landscape mode while im holding the phone upright.

The hiding of the icons is wonderful, although the default folder icon is fugly. I really dont want to pay for bettercut, but it may come down to that, as I love the panda features a little too much now to give them up once the stable version shows up.

Also, has anyone found a good app to sort the apps in folders? I know app organizer is out there, I just havent had a chance to use it yet.

Apps organizer works well and it easy to use. And you can change the Default Icon that Apps organizer uses with Better Cut which is nice because Better Cut cant change the "folder" Icon Android uses when you add a new folder. I also like the fact that apps organizer only opens the window big enough for the amount of Icons you have in there, unlike the Android Folder which opens a full size window for 1 icon. Also you can "Star" your favorite apps, so you can have an Apps Organizer Folder that has all of your Utilities in it but yet you only use 3 of those most of the time. You can star those 3 so they are the ones that show up. Each folder view has a star Icon so you can un-star the view and see all icons in that folder.

Are there going to be any home screen replacement options that don't cause lag? Good looks just aren't worth giving up speed to me.

There is no lag on GDE or Panda. The only lag you may find is when scrolling through the applications screen. I actually find the screen transitions smoother in GDE than on the stock Home
