Why Does The Note 8 Have A Smaller Battery?

I'm sure it does but it's not because of background apps. Or very little of it is.
/Edit/ Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to finally have a CLOSE ALL option on my phone. This is the first Moto I have had with the option. I just don't believe it has much to do with battery because as much as Android wants to be my computer it still really does NOT multi task very well.

Odd coincidence. Employee asked me today how to get photos off her S6. So I plug it in. Charging appears in the notification try. I click that thinking, like most Android devices, it will allow me to choose my desired USB connection state. No... it takes me to the battery screen Tis & Miklb have been showing us here. So, how do I get it into MSC / MTP mode?

Try a different cable. It could be that the cable is not a data-charging cable but only a charging cable. With a data-charging cable there should be a USB connection icon in the notification tray which allows you to select MSC/MTP mode.
