Does anyone know of a setting to disable data connections on the droid 2? I was able to do this on my original droid under the network options. This would be really useful in areas where I know the service is horrible to help save battery life.

I know you can tell it to stop syncing when inactive under the battery manager, but it would be nice to have it disable 3G completely so its not constantly searching for a data connection.

Thanks for any help!

You can get the app "Extended Controls" its a knock off of the stock power bar
but has a ton of custom features including: Data [ON] [OFF]

:) App found in the market

go to settings menu > data manager > data delivery > uncheck box for data enabled

This will disable all 3G data access, but you can still use your phone for voice calls (and, I believe, for text messaging).

Yes - voice and text don't rely on Data enabled.

go to settings menu > data manager > data delivery > uncheck box for data enabled

This will disable all 3G data access, but you can still use your phone for voice calls (and, I believe, for text messaging).

The actual root is Accounts & Sync Settins > Background Data > uncheck box.
However "Some applications may still use the background data connection"

This meathod does not disable data entirely.

Extended Controls:
You can still send/receive: Text, Phone Calls.
You cannot send/receive: Email, Internet, App. Data, Picture Messages, etc.

Isnt that just for background data? I would think if you removed the check from "Data enabled" it would disable all data over mobile network.

Please explain if I am wrong.

X marks the spot!

Airplane mode. It's quick, simple, easy and will do exactly what you want.

You are correct, I would think so too.

But that is not how it works. Follow the steps and you'll see for yourself.
You will be prompted with the warning FROM YOUR PHONE.
"Some applications may still use the background data connection"

Either use the app Extended Controls as I suggested or do as HookBill & Pool_Shark suggested.
