I didn't sign up for the insurance offered by verizon or best buy, where I bought the phone. I should still be able to get a replacement phone if this is indeed a faulty screen if I've had it less than a year? For sure?

If its faulty and you can show that it is then yes you should be able to get a clnr.

Motorola offers a 1-year mfr defect warranty. If any part of the phone fails and it's not due to abuse or neglect the phone falls under this warranty. HTC should offer the same thing. Contact Verizon about it. They might send you to Best Buy. If BB gives you any crap, contact HTC directly.
