Samsung needs to change all their names, including Samsung for their mobile division or be willing to wait years, possibly decades, for the Samsung name to recover much less Galaxy or Note.

I don't think I'd go that far. People are still getting the S7 & the edge. I've seen folks online saying they went to trade in their Note 7 & couldn't get an S7 edge.

I think the Note name needs to die for sure & I'd extend that to the Galaxy name, but not Samsung as a whole.

I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than the public will. Samsung isn't tarnished beyond repair. I do think a name change would be a great idea though

Firestone wasn't tarnished beyond repair, the Pinto didn't tarnish Ford beyond repair, Ford moving it's plants to Mexico won't tarnish them beyond repair and Samsung will more than survive this one. It's just a matter of how fast they want to come back and Samsung being Samsung it's not like they aren't willing to throw spaghetti at a wall and see if some sticks already.
I personally don't see it as a big deal but I see plenty of evidence among the masses that some do see it as a big deal. Heck look at the threads (how many other topics are getting this much traffic?) on this forum about it.

It's the way of the world now. If it's negative and nasty the people will flock to it. No one can report the good in this world everyone wants to focus on the bad and make it worst. It's why I quit reading the news every morning. Just made me sick.

Either way. This was the right move by Samsung. This isn't defective screens or such. This is a battery with the potential to cause harm. Even one or two defects of this nature could result in serious litigation.

Turns out that it may not have been the battery.. Looks like they are leaning toward an issue deep within the electronics.

The Note name and perhaps the Galaxy name should go away. Sammy is much too big to dump the Samsung name.

Maybe Apple and Samsung could heal all their ills, merge and the next Note would be the S-Pad...

True that! That's why I like customizing my news apps. My mom on the other hand, watches news All. The. Time. She was freaking out about the recall of the first Note and called and text me convinced the hubby and I were going to meet our doom in a blaze of fire at any moment. Then she called me within 5 minutes of seeing news about fires being reported with replacement Notes...adding comments about whether we should even be talking and to call her back on my hubby's S5. Currently I get a text daily about it. God bless hovering Moms everywhere.
