Does rooting help with battery consumption?

are you asking me? I am going to say no....it doesn't matter really either way. I mean sort of I guess. By rooting you can freeze apps that might be typically running all the time.....thus conserving power. But it really isn't noticeable. The only things you really gain by rooting is screenshots with ease, ability to freeze apps (which you can just hide with launchers), and control over how your phone looks and acts for the most part. I can do things to my phone to change appearance or function that you simply can't do.

Example....what are your options for what double tap home does.....better yet....I have my double tap home currently running a car dock app....it used to take screenshots. Can you select a car dock app....no....you get
  • browser
  • camera
  • contacts
  • dialer
  • gmail
  • maps
  • messaging
  • music
  • news
  • social networking
  • text messaging
  • voice commands
  • voice search
  • none

I can select any app I want. Now this is a minor thing....but just an example. I can continue with others.

But no rooting by itself does zip for changing battery life or performance.
