A whole 4 quarts? My Mustang and Truck take 8. 2 gallons of oil.
My VW takes 4 liters, that's probably the number, same high priced oil, for a diesel TDI, can't have the oil burning during combustion harm the DPF...
My F350 7.3 takes 15qts... Do that myself...

There was sarcasm in my post. :) Diesels take insane amounts of everything.

Is it true that once you start using synthetic, you can't go back to regular? Also, my vehicle has 84K miles. Is it too late to start using synthetic?

@84k miles I wouldn't touch synthetic. Plain old Dino oil will work good.

The only thing about using synthetic is.. If you have a gasket leak.. It will find it...

I know of lots of people who used synthetic and then switched to a blend.. (most high mileage oils are blends)

Lastly.. With today's engines.. I don't think 80+k is too many miles... Others may think different..

I don't think that's true. And it's never too late to go synthetic.

I'm not afraid of mileage and engines can be rebuilt quickly and easily.

It's a myth. You can go back and forth but why switch to synthetic after 80k? After 8K, sure but his car has been running fine for 80k. Like mentioned above, if you have a weak seal or one going, you'll know quickly. Synthetic has lot of detergents.

Very true.. Once you're used to it.. You can re ring and bearing a motor in a few hours to a day.. But most people can't.. They lack either the facilities(tools) or the knowledge..

Is there any reason to go to high mileage oil at 84K?

Very true. Not everyone can rebuild a new engine. If the vehicle is maintained properly, there isn't any reason the engine can go 200k+ miles. My engine will probably not make it that far with my 7500-7600K shifts.

Nope. When I hear high mileage,I think of 130 to 150K miles. Is there any issues you're having with your engine performance? Gas mileage going down, rough idle, etc?

No, not at all. I just want my engine to be around for a while.
