Now that you have the Moto Droid, Your opinion on the Keyboard?

Coming from a curve the keyboard sucks. My typing speed has gone down at least 50% or so. I'm willing to overlook that though based on everything this phone can do!

My thoughts exactly BUT motorola have less than 9 months to bring out the next generation that solves this problem otherwise they are going to get eaten alive by the other Android handsets coming.

The Droid is a great phone, but Motorola should be ashamed for putting such a inferior keyboard on their top of the line phone model. The Cliq keyboard design should have been implemented specifically for the Droid as it is leaps and bounds better from an aesthetic and tactical feel/touch standpoint.

i don't mind it much... i rarely use it because i got so used to the soft key on the iPhone... I can't type as fast on the hard key as the soft and i don't like that there is no predictive text... I love that feature BTW... my biggest complaint is that it is not centered though... not a big deal though cause like i said i mainly use the soft keys

I use the keyboard as the primary source for texting. It only took me about a day or two to get the hang of and is much easier and quicker for me to bang out a paragraph with the physical keyboard rather than the virtual. I now use the physical keyboard for most of my typing only because I don't like the idea of touching the screen where I am looking.

Anyone who says Motorola should be ashamed is slightly missing the boat here...but an opinion is an opinion - just like mine.

it's not nearly as bad as i once thought it was going to be...i have beefy fingers so the keys are a lil small but i think i'll get used to it...right now i'll say 7/10. I've also never had a phone with a slide out keyboard so that could also be the prob

It is definitely not as good as the BB 8820 I moved from. But it is better than the HTC Touch soft-keyboard I used briefly. I am getting used to it, I could live with a smaller keyboard with raised buttons.

But this still is the greatest piece of personal technology I have ever owned.

On a scale of 1-10 (worst to best) I give it a 6. My hands are too big to use it quickly; however, I've increased my speed from ridiculously slow, to moderate :icon_ banana:. I love the Droid so much that I've learned to love its bastard child of a keyboard as well. :icon_eek:

I absolutely hate the physical keyboard. I won't even use it. Actually, I dislike the virtual keyboards, too. I need to be able to use the phone in portrait position to be able to hold it effectively, and I can not type effectively on those tall narrow keys. I've actually gotten so frustrated over the Droid keyboard that I have picked up my iTouch to be able to continue my text to a friend.

I really see my Droids going back, as much as I hate to say that. There is no one great deal-breaker, but rather a bunch of little nagging things....

Droids. Yes, I have two, one for myself and one for my teen. The question is, what can I go back to? Verizon has nothing else, at present, that interests me.

I had the LG enV and I loved the keyboard on that. Lost it and upgraded to the LG Dare. Hated the virtual keyboard on that, so my expectation would be that the keyboard on the Droid would be similar to the enV, not having seen the keyboard in person before I bought it. I was suprised to find the keyboard is flat. I'm sure that in time I will get used to it. I love the phone and I think it's a keeper! Now if I could only configure my Google Apps work email, then it would be everything I need it for!

I dont use the physical keyboard so it doesnt really matter to me. I have adjusted to the virtual keyboard just fine and really dont have an issue with it. It is a nice change from the touch/click keyboard of other devices (BB). I will be keeping both of them...

lol at everyone who says there typing is slower on the droid. i guess this is just one of the age differences thing... I can adapt to any keyboard and type super fast. Voyager, Curve, Droid. My fingers learn it and i can type without looking. Adaption my friends! I kno any my age has no problems with the keyboard. i'm 19

It is taking some time but I am getting use to it. I do sometimes it more than one key but I did that when i first got my BB Curve too.

at first i hated it, but actually i use the physical keyboard more than the virtual keyboard. efficiency is only getting better, and i make little "fat finger" mistakes

Im really hoping the keyboard grows on me. After coming from the Tour I cant expect it to be that good, but I still hope I like it.

I feel the same way, I'm coming from a BB pearl and the sure typing grew on me and before long I was composing SMS' and emails like it was nothing. Thus far I'm not a fan of the keyboard, the dpad is a pain and I suffer from fat fingers as well but I use the keyboard way more than I use the touch screen keyboard so it's coming around slowly but surely...
