Okay I called AAA as I have them for Homeowners Insurance...the phone be covered for theft only under the policy which as it is a home it is a $1,000 deductible. So that does nothing for me.
Seeing at the State Farm agent is around the corner from me...I think I'll pop in and see what they say...I'll report back later.
Edited to say:
I think I will not insure...I never insure stuff, why would I insure this phone. Running the numbers. it just does not make sense. The times I have insured something like my Plasma TV I never used it...heck on a $9,400 motorcycle I only ever had liability coverage and from what I saved could go buy a new motorcycle for $9K and not worry about it.
Like all insurances you are banking on that you got to make a claim, however they bank on that you NEVER make a claim and because they are in business to make money they are right...most people will never make a claim. I broke one phone, I tossed it at a wall...it meant I had to order a 3rd party case, and take it apart and re-solider part of it and I had it working for $20. Guess I am lucky that I can do that type of stuff...worst case I would of reactivated the old phone...LOL I always keep my old Verizon phone for this reason...the whole $30 extra for data would do me no good but I would have a phone *shrug* I'm sure I could find a cheap 3G flip phone if push came to shove.
Seeing as I ride was the reason I was looking....but I also know how to protect my phone. I'll roll the dice worst case...again just pay the ETF which is not much more then paying the monthly fee and then the high deductible. I guess if you are prone to breaking your phone then maybe worthwhile to you. I can look at it like this I been with Verizon since they bought Airtouch...LOL I never had insurance, so the amount I saved from then to now equals more then a Droid cost at MSRP...so I'm not out any money. It is all on how you look at things in life.
