How To: Root your Motorola DROID Bionic

i had updated to .893, then to liberty. then back to .886 via one click fastboot. now i try to used petes root tool i get this

ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method

Try again from the start, but if the problem continues, check your version
of Gingerbread -- hopefully you don't have a version where this exploit
was fixed.

I am new to rooting and soaking up information, so bear with me.

1. Is there a difference between using Petes Root and One Click?
2. Does one or the other provide more/less root directory access, any limitations between the two, one or the other easier or less "buggy" (fickle).
I want to get rid of my bloatware and be able to take advantage of apps that require a rooted system.

3. What advantage would ota .893 give me vs the 886? I've read that I would have to permanently root my phone to do this? Can Permaroot be unrooted?

4. When you flash the ROM, is this a new OS for the system or just a different UI?

This is for starters and have some reading to do. I have just been catching some tid-bits on the blogs. Is there a one-stop-shop where some detailed descriptions are available?

If this is posted in the wrong area, let me know.

Thank you in advance.

There about the same you can get rid of your bloat ware by downloading titanium backup and freeze or down load a rom like liberty then you can add whatever bloat you want 893 is just another base like 886 883 withbcheesecake is a different kernel and radio atthis point it doesnt correct the data problem so I would say unless you want to practise its not worth it.IMO I would make stockbackup and flash a rom of your choice you can always go back to stock rooted very easy

Download and run the file from your computer with the phone connected via USB, and there is a bootstrap recovery already :)

I'm having this same problem. Went to 893 and lost root because I'm an idiot and didn't follow instructions. Went back to 886 and tried to root again. No go. Can't get root for crap now so I'm back on 893 waiting to see if anything will come out. I did notice that during the 893 install process I saw a bunch of line items patching this and that. Sounds like they patched the hell out of it.

Is this why I can't root? I downloaded the .893, but went back to .886 and I've tried several rooting methods, but can't obtain root. Do I have to go back to .893 or is there a way to do it without?
