I don't think a chat with Moto's tech support is a very definitive answer, though I don't really see why they wouldn't go to 2.3 anyways.

you are already on 2.3 technically .... but we expected the d2 and dx to get gingerbread it is just a matter of time.

I don't see why any of the new droid phones would not receive Gingerbread...
