Motorola has always been better then HTC with Battery life.. Motorola has a battery Manager to help with Battery life. Dual core does not use the Battery like single cores does It uses lees of the Battery then single cores does. My question to you is you do not think that HTC will not follow suit in this next year with Locked encrypted Boot loaders. then you guys are in for a rude awakening.

"Motorola has always been better then HTC with Battery life." Agreed.
HTC will eventually have locked/encrypted bootloaders. Agreed.
Dualcore phones use less battery than single core. Really? How? This I want to know. If it's true then :icon_ banana: but I would assume the opposite.

I've used SetCPU with my Droid 1 and Thunderbolt. And whenever an app tolls the CPU, the CPU instantly jumps up to the highest clock (100%). It isn't like a PC where the CPU is at 20%. That's my observations.

Dual core processors were engineered to reduce power consumption which mean better battery life. In other words because power consumption is split across 2 cores and 1 core isn’t overworked with lots of heavy lifting, each core is more often in a “resting” or “relaxed” state which exerts less energy. Bottom line? Longer battery life. It was originally stated that it will match the Battery life of the DX. When I had my DX. I got about a good 8hrs use of it and that was heavy use of it. That is surfing and forums and using it for work plugged into the overhead. Know that my wife has it she gets 2 and a half days easily because she just uses it for txt, phone use and surfing the net.

I would agree with that above statement. Its really quite simple to me. 2 is better than one, thats the whole point of dc processors whether it be for phones or computers. They were made to reduce the work load of the other processor and distribute the work load more evenly as opposed to a single core having to do everything that the user requests it to do. Its gonna be quite interesting to see how the battery life will be with the bionic(which I am gonna wait for) in a non4g area.

So maybe the experts can school me on why I even need a dual-core phone. Is it something that 99% of the consumers will even notice?

Or is it only exciting for the phone geeks that run quadrant scores every 5 minutes?

What apps/processes actually need dual-core to run better or faster?

I'm not being facetious. I'm asking this as a true question because I just upgraded to the Droid X from a Droid 1 and it's WAY faster in everything it does.

I don't notice any lag in opening apps or going from screen to screen. I mean, how much faster can "instantaneous" be??

Thanks all...

The main benefit is dual cores are more efficient. They run the same clock speed as your DX, but should use less battery. There's other performance enhancements, but being more efficient at the same speed is the big one.

Look at the differences in the processor from the droid 1 and the droid x. the droid x has a better processor than the d1.

Exactly! But as fast as my X is now, I couldn't see it working faster!! (At least for what I use it for).

There is a noticeable difference. I just wanted to see what the Bionic might be like so I went to AT&T to mess around with the Atrix. It loaded pages much faster then my wifes DX. It loaded some documents much faster then the DX. I was hooked.. If you look at the TB it is a little faster then the DX because of better processors. Like your DX is better then your D1. The Better the processor the better your phone will perform.

I will buy the best 4g phone before the tiered data begins.
It its a Thunderbolt that's fine but I love my D1 and I am leary of Samsung.

My buddy has the Samsung galaxy S and he loves it. Obviously you can't get it on VZW, but I heard the facsinate was pretty awesome too. I really wish they has the Glaxay S on VZW cause after playing around with my buddies, I really dig it, I like my Droid X better but the Glaxay S does have a better LCD screen. Its not quite as big but its OLED and its beautiful looking. And plus it has an unlocked bootloader from what I hear.

The only thing that would make me switch would be an unlocked bootloader but hopefully Moto is gonna unlock it. All the petitions and what not are starting to make news. Engadget just did an article about it. And moto even started a vote on Facebook asking what people wanted for their Droid phones and everyone has been selecting "Unlocked Bootloader", and the petition has over 8,200 signatures already and counting so I have a lot of faith that moto is gonna come around....oh And sorry for making another post instead of adding this to my last one but for some reason it won't let me edit my posts. Keeps saying I don't have sufficient privlages. Have no idea why

"A Motorola spokeswoman said, 'Based on compelling feedback since [Consumer Electronics Show in January], we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience.' "

What a load of corporate BS. I've been waiting to upgrade specifically for this device since before CES. I can understand product delays because of design flaws or poor real-world performance, but I start to get ticked when companies try to feed me a load of garbage about why the delay is occurring.

Motorola, you messed up. Just admit it. There were rumors on the forums for months that there were some pretty serious design flaws on the bionic. Why can't you just admit that the phone didn't perform well and now you have to go back to the drawing board?

Just suck it up and tell me the truth. "We screwed up. Sorry. Phone was a turd. We gotta delay the release." That's what I want to hear. Not " we're really doing this for your own good."

I almost pulled the trigger on a Thunderbolt with a one year contract. If I'd have known about the delay, I definitely would have. I love my OG Droid, but it's getting long in the tooth. I really hate that I'm going to have to wait now until Verizon gets its act together on a dual-core 4g phone.

Well if they do pull the plug on the Etna is may be for the best because they are gonna replace it with the Targa (and most likely VZW will name it, the Droid Bionic) and the targa is even better then the Etna, which is amazing to think about cause from the sound of it, the Etna was an amazing phone itself, and one uping it would be hard, but apparently the Targa does just that. So I'm more then willing to wait. But don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you, getting delay after delay is friggin annoying and then they try to talk to us like were idiots by releasing some statement that's is full of crap, instead of just being honest and telling us he real reasons. We as consumer respond better to the truth, and I myseld love my moto phone and would have a lot more respect for the company themselves if they would just be honest about the reasons for delays. But like I said, it may be well worth the wait, cause I want that Targa sooo bad. Of course I have no choice but to wait unless I wanna pay full price for the phone cause I just got my Droid X a few months ago so I still have a lil while to wait for my upgrade. But luckily I upgraded before they enacted their new upgrade policy. Cause it only counts for people who upgraded after they enacted that policy. They made it retroactive, so those who upgrade before the new policy, still get to upgrade in 18months. But after our next upgrade, we will have to wait 24months for oeur next one, just like everyone else.

If Motorola was smart?

If Moto was smart, they'd own up to their issues with the Atrix's lackluster sales by making the Bionic the same (spec-wise) as the Atrix. Throw in some extra RAM for good measure. The biggest difference here will be pricing (web-top) and MARKETING.

Keep the high resolution (8mp) camera. No, the camera will not replace ANY halfway decent point and shoot, so don't start jumping for joy at 8mp. The pixel density will be terrible which will induce "ultra-noise" in low light and high contrast situations. However, extra resolution will be good for the well lit situations (i.e. daytime nature). HOWEVER!!! If this comes at a performance sacrifice for writing speed (data to SD)... stick with 5mp. The OG Droid has a mediocre camera (albeit great for it's time), but it's biggest failure was writing speed and shutter lag. I used and iPhone 4 recently and the thing takes pictures SUPER fast. Not to mention, under good lighting... wow... nice camera.... Any new phone coming out should sport comparable camera performance to the iP4 or better. That's LOGICAL.

Next: Laptop dock or whatever the heck they want to call it from the Atrix should and MUST be available to the Bionic. CEO seems to agree. Perhaps use some better marketing for it. BE SMART MOTOROLA!!! Use something clever like "Landing Pad", "Launch Pad" or "Droid Base", that would be cool. Creativity counts!

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Marketing.

Motorola BLEW it with the XOOM ads during the Super Bowl. Why? The mocked the competition and didn't do anything to highlight it's features. It was a bad sequel to the (epic) OG Droid :motdroidvert: ads. Why did it work the first time? It was clever, *NEW* and made people curious. The world knows what Android is now, so now say what it does well without mocking the others (iOS). Even Apple has "been there done that" with mock-ads, they're abrasive and silly.

The most plated AT&T ads for the Atrix (guy at the airport) is just confusing and silly. It doesn't show it's usefulness AT ALL. If anything, it shows how you will have problems going through airport security. They get an "F" on that ad. There are FAR better advertisements (more review-like) that could have been used to highlight and showcase this revolutionary "web-top" concept.

And finally, agree with me or not on this, but there is some truth to this:

People on AT&T don't care about Android as much as they do the iPhone, they just don't know any better. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The Droid was successful on Big Red because it was the only alternative available that was even remotely comparable. Let's face it, the iPhone is GREAT and if it wasn't for the iPhone and it's innovations, the Droid and all other Android handsets we love and use today wouldn't likely exist the way they do.

People I know that have switched from iOS to Android are amazed at what it can do, "it's like a breath of fresh air" a coworker said to me the other day. The marketing shouldn't polarize people, rather show what the device can do. Hold their hand has they cross the threshold, don't tell them "you're wrong", because they're not.

In summation:

Bionic should be an Atrix in Bionic clothing. Beef the specs a bit. "Make it new". Stay as vanilla as possible. Keep the cool biometric finger scanner, webtop, RAM... etc, give us a high resolution (bright) screen, fast camera, good radio, good battery life, and gingerbread 2.3. Just do a better job marketing for cryin' out loud! We know what Android is! Just make sure you show those that don't know what's new! Not everyone reads these forums as religiously as we do... :)

If they get this right, the Bionic will stay on my list and, with little doubt in my mind, be another home run for Moto and Big Red. dancedroid

True, but wouldn't it be oh-so-sweet if they upped the ram to 1gb and unlocked the bootloader? If they did, I guarantee most of the people on this board and the like would flock to it as long as it isn't buggy.
