A major benefit of owning a Nexus device is receiving the latest and greatest version of Android as soon as it is released.
Google has recently rolled out their “Stagefright” patches and announced a new policy for security and Android updates for Nexus devices.
Google has said that it will offer Android version updates for two years from when the device first available for sale at the Google Store. Security updates will be available for the 3 years from availability or 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device.
Both Nexus 5X and 6P released with the Marshmallow OS could see the new policy carry them as far as Android O.
These are the dates when your Nexus device will stop receiving updates:
Nexus 6P September 2017
Nexus 5X September 2017
Nexus 9 October 2016
Nexus 6 October 2016
