A major benefit of owning a Nexus device is receiving the latest and greatest version of Android as soon as it is released.

Google has recently rolled out their “Stagefright” patches and announced a new policy for security and Android updates for Nexus devices.

Google has said that it will offer Android version updates for two years from when the device first available for sale at the Google Store. Security updates will be available for the 3 years from availability or 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device.

Both Nexus 5X and 6P released with the Marshmallow OS could see the new policy carry them as far as Android O.

These are the dates when your Nexus device will stop receiving updates:

    Nexus 6P September 2017

    Nexus 5X September 2017

    Nexus 9 October 2016

    Nexus 6 October 2016

Not at all. My 2013 Nexus 7 is still receiving updates.

That's fortunate as the official cut off is:

    Nexus 7 (2013) July 2015

Not sure I believe that date. Even in your post you put.

    Going by that.

It should stop getting updates next month.

I think the issue is that they will provide security patches but the version of Android will not go up. So it doesn't mean you wont get updates but just not th4e newest Android OS.

I understand that it should be just security patches, they just released Android N beta to all nexus devices. So Google is saying one thing and doing another right now.

Same here. My SO unrooted her Nexus 7 earlier this week and updated from Jelly Bean to MM. I was surprised, but that's the beauty of Nexus!
