Skyfire 2.0 released

Coming over from a WinMo Omnia to the Droid about a month ago. I was on the beta team for SkyFire when they first released to WinMo, and went through a lot of similar pains that seem to be here. So, hang in there, the last version I was using had come a long way in a short time.

The only reason I used Skyfire was to play flash content when needed. It is a nice program, but the stock browser (Opera) was better as a whole. I loved streaming Hulu until they locked out Skyfire. Something to do with ad content (and Hulu not being able to get the money), IIRC.

That being said, I've downloaded the beta for my Droid. I may have to check out CastTV that was recommended earlier. Would be nice to be able to watch TV shows again while I'm on the treadmill at the gym.

so whats this castTV all about. I tried it out and it just links everything back to HULU. so its a no go on the Droid

I think it only works for flash videos, not entirely sure though.

Hmm weird, maybe the site isn't compatible? I know that Hulu videos can't be played.

What site are you trying? I've run into a couple that don't work but most do.

The people at Hulu can be complete asses. Don;t get me wrong I like Hulu, but as an organization it is awful.

Yet another issue I've discovered in Skyfire:

If you delete your browsing history in Skyfire, it deletes the browsing history of your stock browser too.

So in the terms of service of SkyFire (that no one reads anyway) it says how the browser will collect information from you and likely be monitoring your web browsing. This scared me away, so I emailed them asking what they mean...

They emailed me back simply saying read this to see what we collect. I did and it didn't really help me much. It said how they can collect information such as what pages you visit, how many clicks, your phones IP, websites before and after your current one... etc... And said how they may keep this info for reference.

I mean maybe I am a paranoid person, and It's not like I am looking at porn, bomb making websites, a=or anyhitng like that. I just don't like the idea of broken privacy. Love how I can watch full episodes of South Park, but I dono if its worth it tracking me.... ehh

I read it. That's why I only use Skyfire as a Flash workaround, to see an occasional video I couldn't have watched otherwise. I certainly wouldn't use it for regular browsing, what with such spyware-esque privacy policies: "We collect everything, and share it whenever we want with whomever we please." Nice.

Unless their partnership means that Verizon = Google, I think I manage to minimize the amount of data Google collects on me. I mean, does all browsing done on the stock browser go through Google proxies, like with Skyfire..?
