How are you trying to delete these apps?

Instead of deleting apps I used an app called Root Explorer to rename the file types of the unwanted apps and that freezes them and removes the icon from the phone.

Most want to delete these apps to free up space.

Yea as stated rooting itself won't allow you to remove anything. You need a root Explorer to rename them from apk to bak (which won't free up space but will remove the icons.) . Or an app like ROM toolbox or titanium backup to freeze or delete them.

Rooting just allows you access to /system where most of these apps reside
