I hate to sound lazy but I have just read through nearly thirty pages of this thread without a single question about what I want to know.

Can I, without rooting, remove/hide the R2D2 clock, as well as change/remove most of the Star Wars themed components using a program such as LauncherPro/LauncherPro Plus? I don't necessarily care about deleting these components to free up space, but more so care about not having my phone look and sound like a Star Wars shrine.

    Thanks in advance.

you can remove the clock like any other widget. The boot animation can not be changed without root, or at least not easily.

    What other components?

Rooting this phone is very easy with Z4 (application) and application installer (app in the market). It's totally worth it too for tons of reasons. If you want more info PM me.

Without rooting? Well, you won't be able to remove any of the Star Wars stuff from your phone, but you can certainly hide some of them.

You can't remove/hide the R2-D2 clock from the list of widgets, but if you haven't already figured out how to get rid of widgets that come preinstalled on your homescreen, just hold and drag them to the trash can icon at the bottom of the screen.

Launcher Pro will allow you to hide apps from your app drawer, so you don't have to see the ESB Binoculars and Best of R2-D2 icons every time you want to launch an app. I don't remember if this is a Plus (paid) feature or not.

If you don't like the Star Wars-themed lockscreen, I highly recommend the lockscreen replacement app, WidgetLocker. You will not only be able to customize the look of your lockscreen slider, but also add custom sliders and widgets to your lockscreen.

You can't change your boot animation without rooting, so you're stuck with R2-D2 on that one (complete with obnoxious beeping sound every time you reboot your phone).

P.S. If you're feeling adventurous enough, you could transform your phone into a carbon copy (well, on the inside, anyway) of a regular (non-Star Wars) and unrooted Droid 2 by flashing the SBF version 2.3.20 file. But given your reluctance to root your phone, this may be a more involved procedure than you might be comfortable with.

Thank you both very much for your help. I do not plan on cluttering the phone so as long as I can hide the things I don't wish to see/use then I think I will be fine. Maybe after surfing the site a little more and saving money for a replacement I will finally be able to root my phone comfortably and take full advantage of it.

    Thanks again!

I'm on 2.3.3 but I think I might flash back to 20, my battery is hurting.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the version numbers...

2.3.20 is the internal system version number of the latest official Droid 2 firmware/ROM. Its Android version number is 2.2.x (probably 2.2.1).

2.3.3 is the Android version upon which the new Gingerbread leak is built. That system version number is something starting with 4.5.

So you see, when you mention 2.3.20 and 2.3.3 in the same sentence, you're really talking about two numbers that stand for totally different things.

(At least, this is my understanding of the way things are. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!)

Is the R2 D2 sold out? I was showing my R2 to a friend and they told me they went to order one, but it's not there. It's not on the Verizon site anymore (where I bought mine). Does anyone know?

They've phased out the d2/r2d2 and only sell d2g's now.

If Verizon doesn't sell them anymore I'm sure some other place online may have some still in stock. Such as Wirefly. DROID R2-D2 by Motorola for Verizon Wireless - Wirefly.com

Thanks, I will check out that link R2D

Apparently it's sold out there as well. Oh well, it's been out for a few months and limited so I am not surprised. Glad I have mine though looks like I just got it in time.
