On your right screen, the right column of icons, how do you get the dark background behind them?

They're loaded through an app called "Widgetsoid". It's pretty slick. I use it for the power management panel on the left screen as well.

Changing the background is just a standard move on Android. The key is to take all of the pieces (background, theme, dock, widgets, etc) and make it all work together. That just takes time and tweaking.

change your background by long pressing on your home screen. then select wallpapers and choose which one you want from there

How do you get the words down there instead of icons like phone/mail/web/email ect?

They're still technically icons -- just graphics with words in there, so you have each one built as an image.

I use a custom dock called Dreamlyfe.Ice ($1.50), though I'm not sure what he's using in the example above. Hopefully he'll respond with info for you.

My current screen (with the Dreamlyfe dock) is below.
