on this forum is convincing me to abandon my M in favor of an S5 or Note4 in 2 more months. Not meant to be inflammatory, just tired of committing to a phone that is forgotten after 1 year.

I wouldn't say it's forgotten. There seems to be activity in the Moto M Forum.

Considering the average lifecycle of a phone is about a year, you'll probably run into the same issue if you pick up an s5 or note4. Though I don't think the M got as much attention as it should have, it's a great phone, just not one of the popular choices compared to say the s3 at the time.
