How to backup phone before rooting?

I am going to root my phone tonight, can someone please tell me step by step how to make a backup of my phone so I can have all contacts and stuff back when i'm done rooting? Hahah im a newb

pictures and videos are saved to the sd card and contacts are saved to your Google account.

As soon as you have root and your custom recovery installed, make a full nandroid backup incase you have any issues.

Sooo basically when I'm done rooting I just resync with my google account and it contacts will be back?

rooting isnt going to make you lose ANY data

Yes. What method are you using? I know an easy way to root but ill probably be condemned for telling you.

nope you loose the same amount for rooting and switching ROMs but when ur rooted u can back up apps and settings with titanium backup
