Yeah I was in the US, so I guess thats it then. Thanks for the help, this forum has been huge in helping me set up my droid to how I want it... tons of great information!

So once I get to Thailand though, since my phone's sim is already unlocked; all I need to do is insert the Thai sim and then it should work?

after reading some comments here and there, i can concluded that:

1. some unlocking service online can unlock droid 2 global
2. some phone is permanently locked to verizon server (not motorola dat why some of ur unlock code cant work)
3. u need to activate the phone on verizon in order to unlock it via verizon support
4. inserting foreign simkad after activating it will prompt the unlock code message

therefore, can we asked some kind hearted verizon customer here to unlock the phone on our behalf?
just borrowing their account details (to verified as verizon customer) then proceed to get the unlock code.
of course, IMEI / MEID no. need to be provided
d whole process should be done by the verizon customer NOT the phone owner.
if it work, just paid a fee for their help

The problem is most people are getting confused on what Unlocking the SIM card means. VZW will give you the unlock code without issue. Why anyone is paying for the code is beyond me, they are just wasting money. However even if you get the unlock code you will not be able to use the device in GSM mode in the states. The actual GSM spectrum bands that are used in the US for GSM are blocked. Once you travel overseas tho the GSM will work.

aixelsyd,

Do u mind getting d unlock code for me if it is so easy?
Some phone can b unlock code via online unlocking service.
some phone r verizon locked, unlock code from verizon

Some ppl like me bought d locked version thinkin it is readily-use for outside U.S
I call verizon using d global support number, managed 2 talk 2 support tech.

He said d phone need to b activated, has clear esn n at least 60 days on d account.
Get d unlock code for foreign card usage
However, some reported u can register n activate it without being 60 days.
Then cancel d account in days.

Pm me if u wanna help me

No I won't and I can't get you the unlock even if I wanted to. As you found out the device must be active on VZW to get the unlock code from VZW for free.

And fyi all Droid 2 globals are locked. This idea of people thinking some are not are clueless and need to do more research before buying a device. The device is Exclusive to Verizon Wireless and we all know they lock there devices. Tha tsaid to this day I don't understand why folks who do not use VZW are buying a device from them to use on a different carrier. It just does not work that way like most GSM owner/consumers are use to.

Bottom line is for folks who bought the device that ARE NOT VZW customers your ONLY option to get it unlocked is going to be to find one of the online sources that can get the unlock code for you seeing as ALL Droid 2 globals are locked from Moto/VZW before they are shipped out.

Unlocked in Australia

I bought my D2G new on ebay from a guy who had sent phones to Australia
b4.. I received the phone all good i then emailed him my imei and he emailed
back the unlock code, took about 24 hours. He did not charge extra for this
as when i communicated with him before buying it he promised he would give
me the code. The code can be bought on Ebay for as little as under $10 anyway.
A bargain to be able to use the fastest single core android phone on the market.
Took a couple of days fiddling to get all the settings right for Australia
(Optus) correct but 2 weeks on and i love it. Best phone i'e owned.

She did replied n told me she activated phone but she didnt get simkad network unlock code yet.
If she read mt email thoroughly, she coulda get code easily

i keep telling ppl that verizon has infected the production line. deliberately making some global phones such that they CANNOT be unlocked- period.

so that those who buy it without vzw service are later hosed ....

That is completely and utterly false. To further add VZW has nothing to do with the assembly line to begin with so they have no hand in whether or not a device can be unlocked or not.

Some said dat after 1st batch, vz locked it.
Dat y some code does not work.
Some said it is defective.
Will upgrading it via OTA make vz code uneffective?
Need to get new vz code?

I wonder if phone is unlockable via Motorola unlock dongles. Don't have time to check unlocker forums...
