Something to consider, is that the last day to get the Tbolt on a 1 year is this Sunday.. The silence on the Bionic, might be a corporate decision until after the 1 year plan is no longer available.

TINFOIL HAT TIME

On one hand, if the Bionic is coming out late April/early may, announcing it now will hurt Tbolt sales in the short term, as people opt to wait (and potentially leave VZW with a surplus of already paid for Tbolts sitting in their inventory). On the other hand, if it's not coming out at all, or getting delayed with tech problems, many people would jump on the Tbolt, but likely for the 1 year contract since the tbolt is already obsolete technology.

I'd expect a major announcement early next week, either giving a release date, or giving a delayed-date announcement... or in a worse case scenario an "oh by the way, you won't be able to get unlimited 4g on the bionic" announcement.

Feel free to take the tin foil hat off now

A big concern with all the insider information is the first generation of these phones is probably already built.....Even if the phone came out today, we might not be seeing a quality, bug fixed generation of this phone until mid summer :icon_eek:

The phone has been stopped for production according to this;
Motorola kills the DROID BIONIC Etna, with the Targa to replace it - Phone Arena
We've recieved word from the depths of Motorola that the highly anticipated Etna, commonly know as the DROID BIONIC, which was slated to be Motorola's first 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon, has been canceled due to a variety of reasons.

First off, we got a nice hands-on look at the DROID BIONIC earlier this year at CES, as the phone would be the first for Verizon to come with a NVidia Tegra2 dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3" qHD display, and 4G LTE data capabilities.

Then a few weeks later we got word that both the Atrix and DROID BIONIC were having power management bugs, which would cause them to overheat and effect the RF performance. When the Atrix was released, our sources said the power management bugs were resolved on the Atrix, but was still having difficulty on the DROID BIONIC.

Since then, we've continued to hear that things were not going well for the DROID BIONIC (Etna), as it continually failed internal testing at Motorola . Not only with the power management, but that there are some major issues with trying to get the NVidia Tegra 2 processor to work right with the baseband chips that control the hand-off between the CDMA, EVDO, and LTE radios.

Because of the variety of issues with the DROID BIONIC (Etna), as well as weak sales of the XOOM, we got word from our trusted tipsters that the "administration" at Motorola has decided to pull the plug on the DROID BIONIC (Etna) all together, and they are not happy about it either, since it was shown at the CES and was expected to come out in Q2.

Because of the cancellation of the DROID BIONIC (Etna), Motorola is placing more effort in releasing the DROID X 2 (Daytona) next, followed by the DROID 3 (Solana), even though they will not support 4G LTE.

Motorola is ramping-up its plans for the Targa, which will be the 4G device that takes the place of the Etna. Since it is up to Verizon to "name" the device, there is a chance the Targa might still be called "DROID BIONIC" when it is released, or could end up with a different "DROID" label.

The Motorola Targa will most likely be a Q3 summer device, which is placing it a few months behind what the expected release was for the Etna, but from the people that we've talked to, the Targa a much better device and will be worth the wait. It will feature a dual-core processor, 4.3" qHD display, a 13MP camera on the rear, and a 1.3MP camera on the front.

We will keep you updated when we learn more information, and we'll be waiting to see if Motorola officially announces that the Etna will not be the DROID BIONIC, and what their plans are for the Targa

announcing it now will hurt Tbolt sales in the short term

For a junior droider, you sir have removed the tool from your carpenter's belt and have delivered a blow squarely on the flat round end of the small, sharp metal pointy stake.

Sadly, I must concur with this... If the Bionic is really axed, I'm not waiting until mid-late summer to get rid of my damn BB - storm...

Also, considering the Unlim 4g... which will be interesting for me since I'd be using someone else's upgrade to get my phone ... Not sure how that's going to really work contract wise

This just really sucks... The Bionic is the phone that fits my wants/needs. I watch a ton of videos/movies daily on the train and having a large amount of data storage, with good battery power and the potential HDMI-Out where what really drew me to the bionic.

I'm not getting or doing or believing ANYTHING until the 28th... if it comes and goes with no action THEN I'll start looking elsewhere

You have just been post-pwned.

Enjoy your forever plugged-in phone :). Even better, enjoy buying a bigger battery for your brand new phone :)

Actually, my battery life is about on par with my old d1 running gingerbread. So not bad, and with the extended battery I'm cruising at 4G speeds all day, not having to worry about battery...how's that bb storm working out for ya...ROFL!!!!!

I had the EVO and the Thunderbolt has much better battery life. On the stock battery I'm getting about 8 hours.

I called Verizon and said that if they don't give me a free 2750 battery that I was going to get the Atrix on the ATT network. Battery is in the mail!dancedroid FReeeeeeeee

my storm 2 still runs for at the least 2 solid days on single charge with full all day use (phone/internet/apps) with the battery it came with:) Only reason I don't like it is because its old tech, poor app selection and RIM is slow to catch up with android/apple (hence me going to an Android OS phone). Yea it may freeze once in a while (which I know android phones are not exempt from) but for a 2 year old phone its still got dam good battery life (with stock battery). Hows the money on that extended battery for your brand new phone working out for ya lol.

That is the one thing I love about my BB is its battery and thats about where it ends. You have to think that these phones were built to last a business man for days always flying/traveling on the go with not always being able to access a power outlet yet still conduct business on it.
