Best thing is to try them out yourself...your the only one that knows what's best for you. If you don't like them delete them. I use Handcent

I've tried Go, Chomp, Stock, and Handcent, and I keep going back to Handcent. It's the best, hands down. But you should try them all, some fit better for others.

Another handcent user here.

I love that I can have a different tone, icon, and background per contact.

I started with Handcent then got annoyed that sometimes the pop up would not be the current message but the prior text message so then went to chomp and after a few days realized I was not receiving or sending out several texts so then tried Go Sms worked for a few days then just would not send my messages, so like everyone else im back to Handcent..

Handcent. Gosms might be better, if it had more features. When I tried out Gosms, none of my received messages showed up. Instantly forcing me to delete it.

You can only tell it when to delete sent text messages, not received. To delete the received texts just open up the default texting app, it will then proceed to delete whatever you set the limit to. This is why I NEVER open up the default texting app, im waiting for motorola to fix the timezone bug that prevents you from backing up your sms to gmail.

Wouldn't suggest that...you'll likely be unable to text period like that.
