WidgetLocker +*~+*~+*~+*~+*-- WOW!!!

You can save everything on the dockbar including custom icons; I've already done this. I don't think there's any way around the widget thing; even some widget updates break the existing widget and you have to re-add. If you want to remember a particular layout I'd suggest screenshots for reference. Since that's done from PC it should work with WL showing.

It's rare to see developers go out of their way to help people like this, and it's awesome to see one actively taking requests and ideas from the people using the app. Thank you very much!

It's helped me a lot too. People are comfortable talking to me here or by email so they do so and I can fix the bug, rather than get bad ratings on the market where the character limit is too low to identify a problem.

Also Custom Sliders, which is a favorite feature to many people, came from a suggestion from Droidforum's own dahctor.

If I may, I would also like to second the request for hidden music widgets.
This is high on the list of things to do.

I've had to temporarily disable Widget Locker. I use my Droid as my alarm clock, and I have it set so that pressing either the volume or camera buttons will turn off the alarm. WL is interfering with this, and won't let it operate this way.

I believe I talked to you via email. If anyone else is having this problem please let me know (Here or by email, either is fine). I wasn't able to reproduce it on Android 2.1 or Android 2.2 but it might be a configuration thing. I had Cigar Dan checking some more settings last I emailed him.

save feature? ...
can't restore widgets

Yeah, you got it. For those that don't follow, Android doesn't allow applications to load a widget unless the user selects the widget from the list. Security feature.

WidgetLocker 1.2.1 released!
Version 1.2 July 26, 2010
Bug and annoyance fixes release

  • Fix bug with custom sliders not respecting haptic setting
  • HomeHelper is now easier to setup
  • Back Button can be set as a long press, up to 30 seconds (For those that use No Slider and don't want Back Button unlock, this keeps the safety feature, but won't unlock on you accidentally)
  • Fix some bugs with regard to tool mode and lock mode switching
  • Fix a bug with disable interactions and custom sliders
  • TeslaLED Custom Slider action now warns if you don't have it installed. Falls back to a white screen
  • Camcorder action and fixed camera mode
  • Toast notifications are less flashy
  • Avoid some ANRs
  • Avoid Droid/Desire/Evo Long-search disabling

Also another WidgetLocker review, by a site with a great name Hemorrdroids.

I'm confused by the 1.2.2 update. I used to use Quick Desk but now I use Power Strip; similar but different. Does the update affect this app too?

I replied via email.
1.2.2 does not effect PowerStrip. It will not hurt to update to it however.

If you don't have 1.2.1 then go ahead and update all the way to 1.2.2. If you already installed 1.2.1 and don't use quickdesk, then you don't need to bother with 1.2.2

Thanks again, Kevin. I was confident you would reply by email, but it occurred to me after I sent it that I was probably not the only one who was confused and it might have been better to post here so others could see.

First off, thanks so much for the great app, it's a really marvelous tool.

However, since the 1.2.2 update I've been having issues (HTC Evo 4G). It was working fine before but now it tends to lock up. For instance, I will press the power button on the Evo to wake the screen up, and WidgetLocker appears normally with all my widgets, but the unlock slider does not respond whatsoever. I can still get the phone unlocked by dragging down the notification bar at the top and opening an app from there, then pressing the Home button. But no matter what I do, WidgetLocker won't respond. I've even killed the service and restarted it, and it's still locked up. The only thing that fixes it is rebooting the phone. Then it works for awhile but ends up locking up again at some point.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jesse

If you just wait a moment does it start to respond? Also does this only happen if you turn the screen off and back on rapidly?

I don't have an Evo yet so I couldn't experience this first hand, so it might be worse than I thought, but I was aware there would be a small delay if you turned the screen off and back on rapidly. It was to compensate for a bug that blocked long-search and long-home from the whole system.
(It's a bit confusing, I'll post more details in the evening when I have a chance).

Well it's working fine at the moment so I can't say for sure, but when it was having the problem I waited for awhile after pressing the power button and it never responded, up to the point when the screen timed out and went dark again.

I didn't do rapid on/off because I know that can cause problem with lockscreen apps, I was patient with it.

WOW.... :)

I found this thread yesterday and read the whole thing a couple times. Then yesterday afternoon, I purchased Widget Locker. It's the first app I've paid for since getting my Droid in JANUARY! LOL... all of my other apps have been free apps.

I love this app! I just need to figure out what I want on my lock screen now! I have changed it up like 5 or 6 times since last night. :icon_ goofy:

I love the custom slider concept!

The only thing I'm hoping to see in a future WL update is the ability for the WL lock screen to have a different LIVE wallpaper than the home screen live wallpaper. (That's not a complaint by the way.... just a wish list item for Kevin to note!) ;)

I'll be showing off WL tomorrow to my coworker who just upgraded to a Samsung Vibrant... I bet he'll jump onto WL as well. :)

Forgive me if this was answered earlier in the thread but it is quite a lengthy read at this point.

I have a security pattern enabled so when I swipe the unlock you get the dots. Pretty standard stuff there, no surprises thus far. But I can't get shortcuts to act the same way widgets do. I can launch a widget and have it work just fine, it's interactive. But the shortcuts still require me to unlock the phone. For instance if I do a custom slider and make one of the sides the camera app. It won't launch until the phone is unlocked. Is this just a limitation of Android? Or is there a work around that could be used to let shortcuts on the lockscreen launch?

Also, the brightness won't change while secured either. Just thought I would throw that in there.

Hey Kevin,

Thanks for the update.
However, I must report that the pop-up window bug I previously reported is still present in version 1.2.2.
I am not fretting though. I am sure you will get to it soon enough ;-)

Thanks for your hard work ;-)

I think one thing probably everyone puts on it, for starters, is the power bar widget. Nice to be able to enable/disable stuff quickly. Another is a music player widget for quick access to play/pause/skip track (of course, still nothing beats bluetooth headphones with A2DP controls, ha).
I put the standard lockscreen clock at the top. I also have the setting profiles widget there, and the "Battery Left 2x1" widget, and two more app shortcuts.
Then I replaced the unlock slider to go straight to Dialer One and use the back button for unlocking.

Not me! ;) I rarely have a need for the power bar widget ever since I started using the app called Timeriffic which automatically adjusts all of my major settings based on schedules that I have defined. :) I love that app.

I also pretty much have access to EVERYTHING I use on my Droid via the Widget Locker because I'm using the app called Apps Organizer which allows me to create shortcuts and/or widgets to any number of grouped apps that I have defined, with custom icons no less! :)

I also use the app called Battery Indicator which shows me the battery percentage left within a little battery shape, right on my notification bar... the greatest thing about this app is that it also indicates the battery temperature in Fahrenheit when I pull down the notification bar.

So.... in Widget Locker, I've been putting "fun" widgets that I normally don't have loaded on my normal home screens.... like a shortcut to the awesome app Edwin, a MixZing music widget, an Omega Seamaster watch (clock widget), facebook widget, etc... :)

But who knows... I'm sure I'll change up my widget locker screen about 20 more times this week before I settle on how I want to keep it for a while! :D
