OFFICIAL: 2.2/Froyo Issues and Support Thread [NON-ROOT]

I have a question about installing the non root 2.2. Can I do a nandroid backup to get back to 2. 1stock when the official 2.2 drops or will I new to use rsd lite? I want to make sure I have everything covered before I make the 2.2 leap...

I've downloaded everything after talking to Miami and Hook, still onthe fence.

The nandroid file I have is:

froyo-BS-20100606-2246

Do we know if this one is non-root, or with root, and with wifi enabled already? Since it is later than the one miami listed in his OP.

Lastly, I know I asked this again, and damn, hate asking... If I go to this froyo and am not rooted, then I'd still have to go back to my simple nandroid backup made at the beginning, as the OTA would see me already at 2.2, right? :)

Was going to start, but now the damn phone is going on and on work wise ...

If I had to do it all over again, I'll bet I could do a nandroid back up of 2.1 (you should do that). It's in the instructions now. Sort of.), and do the rest of the update in about 45 minutes time. It took me about 7 hours yesterday. I originally thought 5 but I really started around noon and finished around 7:00 pm. Give or take a half an hour. But I had various people helping me.

If I took into account the day before when I tried doing it just with my Mac it would be even longer. But really once you actually do it you realize it's not that hard.

Also something else. After my install I went into the boot loop. It's a good idea to do a wipe everything before doing the actual install. That's not in the instructions I noticed.

I'll see if I can't get those instructions a little more detailed.

You have to install a kernel to get the wifi working. That's real easy to do, you just select one of the kernels, download it to your computer then mount it to your droid. You just put it on your sd card, not in a folder. Then you do an install using SPRecovery.

if you guys aren't sure then dont do it... but if you want themes, cpu speed, and other goodies, then just do it... (see link in my sig)

My WIFI works without the kernel using the file froyo-BS-20100606-2246 that RW-1 has.

I'm talking regular WIFI with a wireless router on my home network and other wireless networks.
I don't see the ability to use WIFI tethering though... I though that was a part of FROYO?

Go for it RW!!! You won't be sorry and after you have all the files and drivers on your laptop it goes off without a hitch.

The only problem I had was that I downloaded the drivers but forgot to install them so RSD did not recognize my phone. And then there was the problem of opening the zipped files but that was because for some reason I never had a Zip utility on my laptop.

Did a side by side Quadrant with my phone and my buddys stock 2.1...

I pulled an 864 his did a 350! His brain did a slow burn! I would say 2.2 AT LEAST doubles the speed.

You have to download the app from the market to tether. So I am told, I have no interest in that.

This whole time I've been worried about being able to get the ota when It it released and completely forgot the ota will still come through. Looks like I have a project to do after work. I can't believe I didn't think of that or I would be on 2.2 now LOL.

Ok ....

Wiping Data / Factory Reset twice, then will choose the froyo folder and restore.

Oh man ...

This is fun and you know it. Your goal should be to do it in half the time it took me. If you'd stop shuffling your feet you'd be at least half way done by now. :)
