NEW DROID OTA UPDATE ALERT (still 2.1)

will the certified like new replacements have this already installed that get shipped out this week? i'm getting one and i'm worried i wont be able to root.

also, wont someone find a way to root this eventually?

it really depends. if persay this OTA is pushed unknowingly to a large portion of the rooted community, then there may be an effort to "re-root" it... however if only a select few people install it, then there may be no drive for the devs to find a new root exploit
lol, on a serious note it took months for verizon/motorola to get their lives strait to push out 2.1 update-1. so it may be a while.

So, with clockwork or sprecovery you should be all set. Those with totally stock phones will be unable to use RSD lite to flash the current sbf file that replaces boot-recovery with sprecovery?

Okay so let me ask this so that I understand........ For the most part if we are already rooted and use ClockworkMod or SPRecovery we should be able to accept the update without a problem?? The problem will be for the ones that are not rooted as they will not be able to use RSD Lite to flash the sbf file, correct?????

Sorry guys still new to this rooting stuff and after all the hard work to get here I don't want is screwed up.

bump.............

Asked already and hypothetically answered.

I've honestly had nothing but problems. I didn't even wanna do it, It updated on its own. My battery died and when I charged it and turned it back on it started the update before it would even finish booting.

i'm curious as to why no one can test this. i wouldn't know what i was looking for exactly, but can't you backup everything using titanium backup, install the update, and use clockworkmod (or whatever you use for recovery) to reflash your old ROM if there was any problems?

just my 2 cents i suppose.

Users who have rooted, but are not using SPRecovery should take extreme care, as this update contains a complete /system image, which means that it will not break the way the previous one did; it will simply erase /system and flash a complete image.

i'm curious as to why no one can test this.

so, again, why can't anyone simply check out what this update does, and reflash their old ROM afterwards?

Just found this. Things I miss driving home. Sooooo vulcan are you done yet.....WE MUST KNOW NOW..
