NEW DROID OTA UPDATE ALERT (still 2.1)

If Google is going to insist on locking down this "open" OS, I may not be buying another Android phone.

What if I install that then it is bogus or something, then they'll ding me for modifying my phone!

Man, you gonna let a minor chance of that ruin our whole evening. Be a man, step up to the plate!:icon_ devil:

why are you purple? i liked you better orange

What difference does it make what color I am. We don't tolerate bigotry here in the DF wuyanks. :D

That was a joke people. My humor has not been coming through lately.

So back to Vulcan. Are you doing it yet?

So, with clockwork or sprecovery you should be all set. Those with totally stock phones will be unable to use RSD lite to flash the current sbf file that replaces boot-recovery with sprecovery?

Okay so let me ask this so that I understand........ For the most part if we are already rooted and use ClockworkMod or SPRecovery we should be able to accept the update without a problem?? The problem will be for the ones that are not rooted as they will not be able to use RSD Lite to flash the sbf file, correct?????

Sorry guys still new to this rooting stuff and after all the hard work to get here I don't want is screwed up.

will the certified like new replacements have this already installed that get shipped out this week? i'm getting one and i'm worried i wont be able to root.

also, wont someone find a way to root this eventually?

In all honesty, how could we possibly answer either one of those questions? We just found out about this thing about 45 minutes ago.

it really depends. if persay this OTA is pushed unknowingly to a large portion of the rooted community, then there may be an effort to "re-root" it... however if only a select few people install it, then there may be no drive for the devs to find a new root exploit

It is the phone manufacturers (Motorola, etc.) who lock things up, not Google.

So, which unlocked, open source phone were you going to buy after boycotting Android?
