Motorola Droid 2.1

With the 2.1 update, all I'm really hoping from it is that my droid won't automatically delete my text message inbox when it wants to. I have the limit set to 1000messages and it deletes all of them randomly in the 100-400 range lol everything else that comes with 2.1 is gonna be AMAZING tho

Use Handcent... it has way more options and is far superior.

Since the leaked Verizon doc said we'd get our next update the 22nd, i could easily see Verizon starting to roll out 2.1 on the 17th and slowly expand the update release like they did with 2.0.1.

I'm with you... when your in a storm and can't see the sky or the ground, you always go with your last known fixed reliable reading.

The last thing "official" was the 22nd, so it stands to reason the 17th would be just about right......

Now, wheres that dang file so we can install it early??? :icon_ devil:

I hear it's alphabetical by city, so if you're in Atlanta, you'll get the upgrade first, if you're in Ypsilanti, MI - you'll be last.

What's the deal with the manual update? Does it void the warranty? Does it require rooting? Or will it be straight from Google or Verizon? I don't have ANY experience rooting my phone or doing any customization beyond what's available on the market so rooting my phone and bricking it is just not an option

Just my opinion but I don't think they would push out an update on a Sunday.

Info from my wife's Aunt who's been w/ VZW 20+yrs and a Tech Supervisor I actually spoke with is saying this... 2.1 will start rolling out on Friday 1-22-9 to appx. 5,000 customers then the 23rd next 20,000 customers then on the 24th everyone should have this update. It should take about 15-20 min to update once you receive. Hope this helps:icon_ banana::icon_ banana:!!

Hopefully that is true. Now for me is the decision to wait a few days after getting my DROID on the 20th to customize, or just do it and wait to re-do it after the update...I just can't wait to get my DROID!

I'm hesitant to believe it but at the same time, it sounds the most plausable out of all of the rumors we've heard. The date makes sense with previous rumors and the method is similar to the last update. We'll see. Also, if it IS true, hopefully its 2.1 and not just an updated 2.0 (2.0.2?).

That's great! If I for one were to display my true emotion about that news, You all would question my sobreity! I love this phone and I love the possibilities that are ahead for us all with this open source os. Just in the short time that I've owned the (Droooiiiiiid) I've had such a great experience with both Google and Motorola that I've already eclipsed any that I had with winmo. In fact just last night I received my replacement battery door (shim included) and am blown away how fast they acted on our issue and had the new one fed exed to my door.

Wait a second... where did I miss the whole battery door fix? I took a very slim piece of cardboard for a shim and put it under the cover... which has fixed it... but I didn't see an "official" fix to this issue. I apologize if I'm being redundant, but I hadn't seen it in the forums.
