Motorola Droid 2.1

I haven't seen this specifically mentioned in the features coming in 2.1, but I hope it fixes the lock-up problem when syncing lots of media using MML, DoubleTwist, Salling, or even just drag-n-drop. I believe the problem is linked to the timeout setting. Prior to 2.01 I was able to avoid lock-ups by selecting "Never" in the screen timout setting. 2.01 removed "Never". Not even enabling "Never Turn Off" in the Apps>Development settings works (the screen still dims at the set screen timeout period).

What happened with the guy saying its coming out on the 17th?? I'm guess we will see it sometime next week.

NOBODY knows when 2.1 is coming out. If you heard the 17th, it was pure speculation. You'll know when it has come out when it pops up on your phone.

how long does it take to update when it does pop up? and will all of the settings and home screen setups be the same when updated to 2.1? or will it go to default? anybody?

it is extremely safe to assume all of your local settings will be preserved, but with 2 new, presuming blank, home screens.

if they do the same as last time, you will have the option to manually d/l and install it, or you can wait until 'your turn' for the easier OTA update. this wait can be significant, i think i got mine 5 days after 2.01 was released, i will most certainly be doing manual for this major upgrade

The verizon rep I talked to a few days ago said that same date.

Verizon reps usually know much less than us, so I would take anything they tell you with a grain of salt.

will the manual update coincide with whatever the release is scheduled for? or would there be a leak for manual then OTA push on realease date?

with 2.01 the manual was an official release, and coincided with the first OTA updates, then it took abt a week until everyone got thier OTA update

I hear it's alphabetical by city, so if you're in Atlanta, you'll get the upgrade first, if you're in Ypsilanti, MI - you'll be last.

NOT

Make that a salt SHAKER... lol

I expect there will be about 3-7 days lead time before it hits. Nothing internal as of yet... at least in the eastern part of the country.

does it get Lottery numbers too

I'm working on an app right now that will grab OS updates created in the future. I have a few more kinks to work out, but soon you'll all be able to have v3.5 on your Droids. 3.6 and beyond will require a hardware upgrade. Anyone interested in being a beta tester?

Hey if it goes into the Future..can you have it get me next weeks Lotto numbers..Or heck just the Pick 3 for then next few days....I can play enough that I can buy a few more Droids...
