Motorola Droid 2.1

I was under the impression the "leaked" date for Android 2.1 hitting the Droid was Jan 22nd, not the 27th.

There are two dates going around the 27th I am saying I would trust better because it is from the same document that told the exact date of the Dec.11 release. But I think it is safe to say that we should see an 2.1 update between the 21st-27th. It is coming real soon.:) Now only if a date was leaked for Flash:mad:

I'm working on an app right now that will grab OS updates created in the future. I have a few more kinks to work out, but soon you'll all be able to have v3.5 on your Droids. 3.6 and beyond will require a hardware upgrade. Anyone interested in being a beta tester?

That is incredible! Wow!! nice work!! What will it be called because I for sure want that app on my phone!! I'd pay for that too!!

ditto...

and these release dates your talking about is for a pushed update... correct.. as in it'll pop up on the phone.. just like it did for 2.0.1..

If you didn't wait for the OTA 2.0.1 and did it manually with the SD card, do you suspect the 2.1 will come up normally?

Thanks!

Depends if the one you put on via the SD card is the official "verizon/moto" one or a more stock (source tree) version. The OTA will be specifically for the Droid and meant to go over their official 2.0.1. So if there are minor differences between them there could be complications. But I don't think anyone can know for sure yet because they haven't seen the OTA (or have they??).

OTA will query your phone as to the OS on it when it hits, if you are running 2.1 then it will not push it to you. Period.

He's not running 2.1, he's running 2.0.1. So OTA will likely push to it. So then the question becomes if there are any packets in the source tree vs the OTA 2.0.1 that won't play nicely together.

Ahh, my bad.

Wouldn't the pushed OTA just overwrite everything as far as OS code? This is why one could lose root, but if you have installed APK's for 2.1 apps, those are left alone as the OTA updates the stock apps in their locations.

...I am also hoping Flash will be released with 2.1...

As others said, Flash is separate from the 2.1 release. I read somewhere that the 2.1 update will be OTA, but that Flash would likely be a download from the Android Marketplace.

Don't know. I'm new to the Android OS so I'm not sure how their updates are being handled. It should just update the kernel and the OS code but with there being so many "improvements" to 2.1 I'm thinking there more differences which leads me to believe they may do a more aggressive update which might be effected by addition or missing packets from a 2.0.1 update pulled from the source tree. Guess time will tell. Though if it is a concern he can always grab the 2.0.1 OTA update package and load it so his device appears "stock" to the OTA update when it's pushed.
