I figure since I have it already anyway, why worry about it?

Why do people even post stuff like this?

just rubbing it in a bit to the non-rooters.

This happens with every update.

The rooters can't resist telling us non-rooters how foolish we are for not rooting, and installing a custom ROM.

I have stated my reasons for not doing it, and no amount of "it's here anyway why not get it" type of convincing is going to change my mind.

If you are rooted, that's great, enjoy it, but don't get down on me because I choose to remain "stock" and I sit and wait for the update. You choose to root, I choose not to. I am not knocking you for rooting, don't knock me for not doing it. It's personal preference, and it should be left alone.

For those of us who canceled our land line to go mobile, it only takes a quick glance at the rooting threads to see people helplessly crying about bricked phones or infinite boot loops to make me say no thanks.

Small percentage, yes, but I can't afford to be in that percentage.

I watch these threads because I'm unhappy with the lag and unpredictability of the Droid, and I'm hoping that the speed boost of Froyo will help those issues.

for what it's worth, i just hung up with a VZW service rep (i was seeing if i could wrangle an early upgrade for the X) and he said that the word coming down to them today was that 2.2 is coming out for Droids "end of July or early August". so, 8/7 would be consistent with that, and if it drops early we can all be "grateful" i guess...

There is noway a VZ service rep will tell you that at all. That is a big no no within the business as calls are recorded and monitored.

There is a script that needs to be followed when questions are asked about software upgrades so I just letting you know. So this 8.07.10 release date well.....uuummm sorry but that is false as well. We will see what September bring us and hoping the weather will be fine too.

Easy deepthroat, if you had inside information you would just spill it.

So don't be cryptic and act like you are hiding some big secret that you and the other 1000's of "VZW Insider's" are keeping your lips sealed about. I've worked in a Customer Service Phone environment before (one that was much more highly regulated and monitored than the wireless industry to be sure) and although I'm sure that VZW has scripted talking points for their reps to follow, we all know that not everyone is going to follow them. Every rep making $9-11 hourly is not going to guard the companies secrets with their life...

The truth is the average rep doesn't know about a release date in advance.. in fact most probably don't know until a day or two after the actual OTA update happens in most cases, communication in call centers is extremely lacking from top to bottom (and that is usually intentional), and hourly reps don't always keep up on training, or alerts, or memos, or whatever stream of new information is used in VZW call centers. There may be a handful of reps who actually get inside information because they are friends with their manager who let something slip to them, but in reality most of the managers probably don't know much until a day or two before it happens...

When concrete information is actually out there in print somewhere, the bloggers and newsmakers will know well before us because they are the ones who have relationships with the "true" insiders... everything else is just speculation and forum fodder...

It will..

..and we will happily continue to be the guinea pigs for those of you who choose not to root..

..and we are fine with that and MOST of us don't have a problem with "non-rooters". It appears to just be a vocal few that want to cause trouble.

I definitely didn't intend it that way, but now that you mention it my awesomeness has been louder than usual lately.

..and we can also hear the awesomeness clearly, regardless of how you are holding your Droid....

..just another shot at apple on the day of their big apology news conference...
