Moto Droid Supposedly Getting Froyo on 7/13

I would gander to say that the Droid will not receive and "official" 2.2 until after the X gets it. Of course i am only speculating

For those to lazy to click p3droid is reporting August 7.

He said he was holding on to this info for a while. Gee could it be that he might have thought the July 13th date was possible and now that it didn't come out he happens to say this the day after.

I feel like people just pick a date 2-weeks to a month a way each time a date passes.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, buit *****ing about it. It could be that it was going to be released on the 13th and got pushed back for some reason - what do you know?

If you're waiting for the OTA update, that's fine but no more whining. Otherwise, root and get Froyo today - some of us have been enjoying it for a month dancedroid

I thought about closing this thread and opening another one but people will still complain about the 13th, so I think we'll just stay with this one.

I would pay close attention to what P3 Droid says. And fwiw he's not just throwing the date around a couple of weeks. I said the week of the 8th, he says the 7th, that's close enough for me. It wouldn't all happen on the 8th anyway. If it starts on the 7th just a few people will get it. All the releases are done slowly adding more people daily. Sometimes they skip a day of distribution all together.

I, like everyone else here, have zero official information to go on, but it seems like 2.2 is close just based on the update activity in the market. I woke up to updates being available for about 1/3 of the applications I have installed and all but 2 of them listed Froyo support in the change history.

Not sure how much it means but at least it's something positive instead of negative.

From someone who rooted for the first time a few weeks ago....speed is the big difference. About 3 times as fast if you believe the quandrant benchmarks. This using the stock kernel and OCd to 600 Mhz (I took baby steps at first :-) ). The Droid is gonna feel a whole lot snappier.

I think the real big deal is voice calling over bluetooth. Something it should have had from the start. Don't realize how much you miss it until it's gone.

Do you mean voice dialing over bluetooth or can you not use bluetooth for any calls with custom Froyo roms?

Please excuse the newbie question as I just upgrade to a Droid from a BB Storm 2 yesterday, but what does Froyo stand for or mean?

Thx!

bluetooth dialing is enabled on 2.2. Some roms you might have to download the apk file, but it works well on the ones I have played with.

I knew I wasn't going to get this update as fast as I wanted it, so my strategy was just to pretend not to care about it. That was working pretty well until I learned they had fixed the Bluetooth problem.

The BTVD does NOT work all that well IMO hopefully the official OTA has an updated version of BTVD because mine is inaccurate a good 90% of the time and not when I speak the number either.
I can say "call joe" and it will say dialing ######## or some odd number that is not even in my contacts list. Then there was the panic moment when I said "call john" and it responds with "dialing 911":icon_eek:

Just an FYI here guys........I cannot confirm this as of right now through my VZW contacts.....it is a RUMOR posted by another site.....again if I get a confimation it will get posted.

True, but I feel the person who posted this is pretty reliable. 8/7 or 8/8 depending upon who's telling me.

Again keep in mind too that these dates could be a start date which means only a handful of Droids would get it on the first date. After that delivery will increase daily....

I was going to say if gingerbread was coming down the line we could just change the title of the thread and nobody would know the difference : )

2.0.1, 2.1, 2.2 threads are all the same lol
