I have been informed that the release date that I first heard of this time of 8/1 is not correct, it will be 8/8 and after. Don't shoot the messenger, I can only tell you what I hear.;)

lol, one of these threads again? Hopefully they don't pop up every week with a new "release date" again like 2.1. And hopefully they actually push it in decent time unlike 2.1

but you can always root and update yourself instead of hoping random rumors come true ;)
This thread is 10 days old.
your point? It's still active. I could see pointing that out if I dug 10 pages back and bumped a dead thread

When I called Verizon about my phone mic issues (nobody able to hear what I'm saying 60% of the time) I was told that virtually 100% of droid owners have this problem and that it will be fixed with this update.

Anybody know if the mic problems are actually supposed to be fixed with this update?

This release date B.S. again? I don't believe any dates thrown around by anyone. The only time I actually believe the update will be released on a certain date is when I actually see the update on my phone.

Do you honestly think Verizon would sell a phone, their flagship phone for over 6 months with a microphone issue?

I have 2.2 now, been running it for a few weeks. If there was a microphone issue I was unaware of it before the install of 2.2. I think that person at the Verizon store was telling you what you wanted to hear.

I think that is more like they were telling me what they wanted to - because the reason they refused to replace my malfunctioning phone was because "everybody has the issue", which is obviously not true. I am just wondering if I should expect to have to call Verizon again for a replacement after the update or if they were actually telling the truth about it fixing the problem.

I don't think at this point that their people have a clue of what the update does. I say if you're having that much issue have them replace it, it's under warranty.

Is this happening to you in a store or over the phone? Phone customer service is always best.

I don't shoot the messenger. I might give him a package to deliver that blows up, but I don't shoot him -- and I usually set the timer on the package so it blows up when it gets back to whomever the message is from in the first place. ;)

how is verizon delaying it? they never said when it was coming. to delay something you have to give a expected date first then not deliver

Motorola created, and handed off to Verizon, a viable product weeks ago. That means they've had it in their hands for weeks now, and all we've seen are some limited test releases (FRF84B being a specific example). By not releasing it they're delaying it. It's that simple. For whatever reason, and my earlier post may have exaggerated Verizon's money-grubbing ways, it's being delayed in-house. Maybe it's how fast it was leaked and rooted because Verizon hates root. I don't know and other than offering possibilities I won't hazard a guess.

The original "promise" was June. Don't believe me? Look it up. Last time I checked my calendar, it's halfway through July.

As far as rooting goes, I just not going to do it. Technically savvy? yes, I am, I have built computers, repaired them, etc. etc. so it's not a fear of the unknown. My main concern is voiding of the warranty. If I had 500 bucks or more to get another Droid, or pick up a new Droid X if I bricked my current phone, then, I would do it. Since I don't, I am not taking the chance, regardless of how small some people claim it is. (I have read enough "Oh crap, I bricked my phone" threads to realize that bricking is a serious possibility)

If it's delayed by VZW until Aug 1, then so be it, I can wait. My Droid runs fine, so, I am not worried.

So don't root. I don't see anyone holding a gun to your head. :) In my case I needed -- and I stress needed like a bending I-beam in a collapsing building here -- wifi tethering. Once I rooted I started playing and now I won't go back without the aforementioned gun. dancedroid

It will arrive, but the more it gets pushed back the less likely Verizon and Motorola are to give us a hacked-down Gingerbread or even whatever upgrades Google may come up with to FroYo in the future as official. That, my fellow Droiders and friends, may be the whole point.

I already tried to have them replace it and they refused even though it's under warranty. All they said was that 100% of users have the problem and that the update will fix it.. I already know the first part isn't true so I am questioning the 2nd part also. I called the customer service line, I hate dealing with the reps at the store.

If it's under warranty walk into the store and demand a replacement under warranty. If they refuse, contact customer service via the phone, like Hook suggested, and demand a replacement and complain about the store refusing to honor the warranty as well as lying to you!

I've had zero problems with my microphone. In fact, I've heard many compliments about how good my phone sounds, and I live in a place where I'm lucky to get -89dB signal outside.

Okay I'll give that a try. Whats funny is I even had the problem when I called customer service so he had to keep asking me to repeat my problem because of the crap mic.. then refused to replace it. He tried to divert my anger to Motorola saying that they are the ones that wont replace it, not Verizon.. which is a BS answer.

Man -89 , would kill for that. Might get -100 if lucky , -110db typical .

how can you tell what number thingy the signal is?

And you can use your phone with that? The last time I had anything under -100 I couldn't even get 1x data transfer and forget about phone calls. I live in a low-signal area -- in fact, Verizon just put up a tower (hasn't activated it yet) about three few miles away, as the crow files, because typical signal here is about -96dB for the average customer in the area, and that's below their "acceptable" threshold of -95dB. Where's your nearest tower?

how can you tell what number thingy the signal is?

Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Signal Strength.

I'm running Cyanogenmod 6 RC1 so mine actually reads "Signal strength" without the second caps, but I'm assuming it'll be there for anyone else. :) In my experience anything in the low 90's will give you 4 bars of signal strength.

On the plus side, the OTA update will include the latest baseband version for those of running stock.
