Maxx HD -- What does it mean that the battery is sealed?

Why is the battery inaccessible?

Occasionally my current phone (Droid X) will freeze so bad the only thing to do is remove the battery.

Why is the battery sealed on the Maxx?

Just the way it was designed. I guess its a way to try and get people to buy the maxx for the battery instead of simply installing their own extended.

However there is a hard reset key combo to essentially "pull" /restart the battery and phone.

Holding down the power button, and the volume down button simulates a battery pull.
You have to hold them down several seconds.

Hard Reset - DROID RAZR / RAZR MAXX by MOTOROLA

Performing a Hard Reset removes all data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications. Only perform a Hard Reset if absolutely necessary.

Disable Automatic Restore prior to performing a Hard (Factory) Reset when attempting to determine whether a 3rd party app is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.


Preferred Method

1. From a Home screen, select Apps (located in the lower center).
2. Select Settings.
   
   
   If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
3. Select Privacy.
4. Select Factory Data Reset.
5. Select Reset phone.
   
   
   If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
6. Select Erase Everything.
   
   
   Allow up to 10 minutes for the Factory Data Reset and reboot processes to complete

Alternate method

1. Power the device off.
   
   
   Press the Power button then select Power off.
   
   
   If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the Volume Up/Down then press and hold Power button. When the device screen goes blank release the Power button while continuing to hold Volume Up/Down, proceed with step 3.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up/Down then press the Power button.
3. When presented with the Boot Mode Selection Menu release all buttons.
4. Press Volume Down to select Recovery then press Volume Up.
5. From the Droid triage screen, simultaneously press Volume Up/Down.
6. Select wipe data /Factory Reset then press the Power button.
   
   
   Use Volume keys to navigate options.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button.
   
   
   Use Volume keys to navigate options.
   
   
   Data wipe may take several moments.
8. Select reboot system now then press the Power button.

This seems way serious...it deletes my Google account? Does it also delete all my contacts?

mdslup, you DON'T want to perform the "Hard Resets" mentioned above to resolve the infrequent locking-up of the phone. Doing the above essentially puts the phone back into the "out of box" state, and does wipe all contacts and other similar information. It also wipes all installed apps. There is an option to also wipe the SD Card but that must be selected at the time of the reset. Essentially "ERASE EVERYTHING" is exactly what it means.

Instead for what you are describing, simply press and hold the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons (for at least 10 seconds). This will perform a "battery pull" and the phone will shut down. In some cases, it reboots on its own, others require the normal POWER button press and hold.
