Quick question..
This may seem off...
But I had an Incredible then it got stolen..
Anyways..
I've been following this "thunderbolt" phone for quite some time..
My question is this..
Can I buy this phone from either best buy or where ever available and have it activated in my area...*Guam.
We have a Verizonish company that specializes with Verizon phones..e.g Droid Inc..Droid X....Sammy Fascinate..
I want this phone.. and I refuse to use a replacement junk phone..
Thanks..
Keep up with the info..be it speculations...or what ever.. gives me more reason to WANT this piece of epicness of a phone..
Thanks again.

can you change your plan at BB as well? Since I'm going to a smartphone for the first time we have to obviously change our plan, so would I have to wait to do that at a verizon store?

Word on the street is it's faster than that dual-core Motocrap Droid Bionic....

We don't know about battery since it hasn't come out yet.

Haha yeah the TB is gonna be everywhere, thing is I'll probably be the only person to get it in my city, since we don't even have LTE and probably won't get it for a year or so.

eh, as much as i would like the above to be true lets not forget the bionic on display at CES was only using 1 core of 2.. to me that may be that comparing core to core the thunderbolt is better but 2 is always better than one.. i just dont care to wait for a dual core with less ram than a single core and coming from OG Droid helps to.. lol

Eh, Know much about computers? Dual cores only have the advantage if the programs can run multi-threaded. If not then a single core with a higher clock speed will have the advantage.

I'm saying it right now - I'm sitting on an expired AT&T contact, and if the Atrix is released before the Thunderbolt, I'm staying. AT&T has officially announced March 6th or earlier on the Atrix, so at least that's SOMETHING to go on.

If you're in an LTE area, I'd say wait for the Bionic. If not, then by all means pull the trigger on the Atrix.

There isn't even Verizon 3G coverage in Western Maryland, where I do a lot of business travel...

Glad to be living in baltimore while at school and central maryland between dc and baltimore when at home :)

Question... I don't have a smartphone plan right now. Could BB add the $30 smartphone plan if I were to get the TB through BB? I didn't think to ask BB about this.

Someone asked about swype way back, I don't think it'll come preloaded, but I will put swype on mine, I signed up for the beta way back in December, I dunno if you can sign up and download the beta now, but probably not sadly.... I have the .apk for swype installer, should work on any Android phone, but I have no way of sharing it with the world, maybe Google it, someone else is bound to have it.

14th guys, I dunno what you're arguing about...... Although BestBuy will definitely have the tb on Monday, vzw stores might not. But why buy from a Verizon store, as stated earlier bestbuy has the buyback program free right now, and of you are using a two year or buying at full price without a new every two discount, bestbuy is the place to get it.

Swype DOES come preloaded ("baked in") on the ThunderBolt. It is not an app in the TB, rather it is an app that will be available in the market for other phones, after the release of the TB. The issues has been whether it would be ready in time for launch of the phone or not. If it was not ready in time, a mere update would take care of things shortly after release. However, if the phone was delayed, it might be because they wanted this functionality at launch.

As far as buying at Best Buy vs. Verizon - I have only ever bought phones from my VZW store, never a third party retailer. Will Best Buy honor my NE2 upgrade (I am eligible now), or will I have to go to a Verizon store to use it? I will not pay full price at Best Buy, nor sign a contract with them just to get the discount. I already have a family plan contract with Verizon and don't want to change that at all, I just want to upgrade my phone. Does Best Buy make you sign a contract with them, or is it basically the same thing as buying at the Verizon store? My inclination is that it is different, especially since BB does not allow 1-year contracts, but I really have no idea how this works. The only reason I would want to buy at Best Buy is because of the possible early release date, and the new free buy-back program. Thanks to anyone who can help clear this up.

I saw on the wirefly that the game index wasn't that high for this phone. What does that mean? Does that mean it wont play games very well? Does that mean apps wont work as well on it?Please someone who understands this stuff let me know. I'm worried about the performance of the phone now.

Don't be worried about performance. This phone will be super smooth and fast. I think that the game index has nothing to do with the apps, only the game graphics and speed. Like someone else said earlier, the TB might not be the BEST phone for 3D accelerated games, and the top of the line largest, most-detailed, games that Android has to offer. However, it is no slouch and will still be OK for those at least, and totally fine for most of the games out there. If you are a hard-core gamer and that is one of the main uses for your phone, this might not be the best phone for you, as others available now are slightly more capable in that department. But games aside, that lesser score will not affect the phone's performance in any way. If you are really worried about it, play on your Xbox360 or PS3.

With all the tweets, leaks, and teasers we've seen lately, I think Verizon is chomping at the bit to give us information as to a release date. They are just as excited about their first LTE phone as they are about getting the iPhone (maybe not sales/profits-wise, but advancing technology-wise). However, I'm thinking there was a clause in the contract with Apple that required Verizon to shut down advertising, promotion, and talk of other Android phones until after the iPhone's release (to maximize sales and lock in sheep). Either that, or Apple just flat out paid Verizon for that honor. Regardless, I bet we see something on Friday 2/11 about the ThunderBolt clearing up all the BS. I hope so, anyway. It's going to suck if we don't hear something concrete until Monday.

Possibly. Maybe even certainly if VZW is offering special promos to drive LTE subs.

I'll believe free unlimited tethering (even capped) with the TB when I see it, but that would really drive sales. I would guess, however, that there would have to be some way for VZW to block or disable free hotspotting on 3G.

I'm not really worried about the free hotspot. I can just root. An before you guys say anything about breaking terms of service and all that, I use maybe 500 mb of data a month because I always use Wifi so no I won't be slowing it down for everyone else. I just don't think paying 20 to use maybe 50 mb every now and then is worth it.

True, but I also find wireless tether to be buggy for me, and maybe half the speed of what my phone actually gets.

Good LTE hotspot functionality with unlimited data? I'd buy the TB retail today and cancel home broadband (and I'd probably hit somewhere between 5-10 gigs a month).
