Home++ Beta

I've been rooted for two months and I still use home++, it was the only home replacement app I liked before rooting and after overclocking to 1Ghz I tried it again(pre installed in the Dark Theme) and it never FC's. The power strip on the bottom should be a standard for android, even if the 2.1 launcher makes it into the ota update I'll probably still keep home++ just because it offers so much more.

GDE for me

GDE and Beautiful Widgets provides what you need.

GDE like many of the home replacements lets you configure for more than 3 screens and saves screen real estate by allowing for placement of a phone and contacts button along the app drawer.

Beatiful Widgets is well worth installing. It gives you the quick access to the calendar that was mentioned earlier in the thread as well as the skinnable weather widget.

I am thinking about rooting mostly to get the Dark Theme because I NEED that power strip (and hidden notification bar)...cannot live without it... does it work with any ROM? Where do you get the files and install instructions for the theme?

i'm rooted and have no problems with home++ at 800Mhz. i agree, it should be part of android.

New update released for Home++!!! Version 0.8.0.8 dropped this morning... Nothing earth-shattering, but one of the "small fixes" was the weird drawing issue for the screen selector. That drove me bonkers, and now it's fading in and out cleanly.

The one big thing is scrolling widget support. This means bookmark lists, email lists, etc! Intuitit put out a demo bookmark widget that is pretty slick.

If nothing else, just seeing that Home++ is alive and well makes me smile. :)

Home++ has always been my favorite, the power strip is friggin genius. I have it setup with 6 screens with one devoted to 4x3 calendar and a 4x1 task widget.

I installed this while I was setting up my phone with a new rom last night and I had to reboot maybe seven times, and I got a force close a few of times if I tried to navigate thru my phone before letting my phone finish setting up. These are the only fc's I get but if I just chill, let all the widgets load up and let the phone handle it's business everything runs smooth.

(I tried to post a screenshot but DF won't let me attach a jpg for some reason)

EDIT: The seven reboots were due to me making nandroid backups NOT because of home++

Yup, my only complaint is the occasional force close, other than that I really like this program. I only have 5 screens, but I really like the short-cuts it offers like hitting the date to open the calendar. That's as useful as the app bar at the bottom. I'll be curious to see what features Android 2.1 will have that are currently offered on home++.

Any FC's yet since the update?
I assume it'll take a few days to validate, but this is my biggest gripe. Hopefully it's improved with the update.
I never really have a force close on Home ++, every time the FC message comes out (which is not that often) I simply click on "wait" and it comes back fine within a few seconds. I use 4 screens and not a lot of widgets.
I am very glad this is alive. I would like to see the developer start charging a few buck for it, he deserves it.

I just sent the developer a donation, hopefully he can keep the development of this app going. He mentions on his site the force closing issue happens mostly on the larger screen devices like the Droid and he is waiting for his Android 2.0 device to work through that...I would assume he should be getting a Nexus 1 from Google for being a top developer and being from outside the USA.

Donerico he can't charge for it in the market right now I believe since he lives overseas, you can donate to him though through his website.

Does everyone clear their other home pages of all widgets and apps while running Home ++?

x2! Home++ is definitely a worthy product and could be an amazing application if the developer had all of the tools he needs to make it work on Droid / N1 / etc.

In my (limited) experience, the update seems to be less prone to FC. I only had one instance of it so far; when I tried to rotate the screen I received the FC / Wait option. Choosing wait worked fine... and hasn't happened since.

I certainly will. Home++ and swype are the two applications with the greatest impact on the functionality of my droid. Folder organizer (abc organizer) comes third.
