Gingerbread 6-1-2011

Downloaded and installed without a hitch, about 10 minutes each. Runs great, just ran a Quadrant Benchmark at 1741, holy smoke! Haven't found anything wrong yet. So far I like what I see. The buttons at the bottom are super bright, if someone knows how to dial them down, I sure would appreciate a tip.

Completely stock Droid X, never rooted. Just installed OTA for Gingerbread and installed without a problem. When it boots it goes to the home screen and looks OK, but as soon as I touch any buttons the screen goes black. Only the task bar along the top of the screen is visible. Have to pull the batter and reboot. Same issue in safe mode. Any suggestions?

Do a battery pull! I had the same issue at first. No problems now.

I made the mistake of deleting stock apps, I'm in the process of doing a major download of 2.2.1 stock apps. Hopefully that will enable me to get the update.

If that don't work then you're gonna have to SBF your X and do a factory reset. That's the only way it'll work for you, having been rooted and removing bloat. I'm going to have to do the same to my Girlfriends X tonight, if I can pry it away from her and get it charged enough. lol

Yeah, hehe. When I was told in this thread earlier today that I couldn't get the OTA while running .595, I simply backed all my crap up and SBF'd back to Froyo, then grabbed the OTA.

Interestingly enough... I downloaded the OTA over 3G and it only took ~20 minutes.

Ok when I unrooted to get the ota I just relized I forgot to turn off the add blocker then unrooted would that stop the ota from installing?

after i've updated, is there a way i can get back all my old apps and homescreens?

Your apps should all be there. You may have to to just put whatever your home screen is back on. So long as it is capable of working with Gingerbread that shouldn't be an issue.

I've been reading these forums for quite some time and have gotten a lot of great info here so I hope someone can help me out.

I've always been running stock rom but was rooted. I restored the stock backup with bootstrap, restored all apps and data with Titanium, than unrooted. OTA tries to install but when it reboots it wants to boot into clockwork recovery. Will a wipe data/factory reset do the trick? Or am I gonna have to sbf? Thanks all!

SBF and factory reset will do the trick.

i did a factory reset after flashing back to 2.3.34 and then updated.

i think all of it is gone. =\

Anytime you do a factory reset and/or wipe data and cache(when installing a custom Rom)you have to re-download all your apps from the market, and re-install the ones on your SD card, and put all your widgits back to where they were. It only takes 15 to 30 minutes tops to do. Make sure you are on wifi downloading all your app back. it'll be quicker.

Different OTA question here. Today the update was pushed to me but I keep declining the install. Is there a way to totally opt out of the update? I've read enough about different issues/bugs and I definantly don't want it, not until it's fixed anyway. Will a hard reset do it? SBF back to froyo? Something else? I thougt about calling VZW, but that will probably just aggravate me.

I'm totally stock X, no rooting at all, and I just got the update. Took about 20 minutes to download and about 10 minutes to install & boot on WiFi. So far, so good. All my contacts seem to be there with FB links intact, etc. I likey, lol. Only complaint (if it even really is one) is that those physical key lights sure are beacons now- Holy Snikies!
