Gingerbread 6-1-2011

I can't even get the OTA to install. I must have downloaded it 7 times already, on the 8th now. I was rooted before using z4 but i only used it for the wireless tethering. I restored my phone back to factory by using settings/privacy/factory data reset but it still won't work.

After downloading on wifi, when my phone restarts so it would install, it will always fail saying something about the update.zip not being there. Where is "there" and why am i wasting data downloading something that isn't "there"?

Did you sbf back to stock or just do a factory reset? If you only did the factory reset you are still rooted which will cause the install to fail. P3 stated that in order to take the official OTA update from verizon you HAVE to be on complete, unrooted stock froyo which means you will have to sbf your phone back to 2.3.340 to take the OTA.

soak

There hasn't been any word on how the soak test went, those are the people who got the OTA Friday night. They were supposed to use it for the weekend, and fill out surveys for Verizon/Motorola by Monday. Then the results will be gone over and any bugs will be fixed and applied to the update and sent out to the masses starting June 1st.

We'll see what happens tonight at 12:01am

I was one of the soak participants and i am still fixing my droid x. I ended up data wiping and reloading the original stock sbf and now i am downloading the gingerbread update. I will see how it goes. AS of right now i am not pleased. Myself and several hundred people got bootloader error codes five at least. some less. it was a mess. So ya you need to wipe you phone to make it work i hope.

Gingerbread loads, but locks up

Completely stock Droid X, never rooted. Just installed OTA for Gingerbread and installed without a problem. When it boots it goes to the home screen and looks OK, but as soon as I touch any buttons the screen goes black. Only the task bar along the top of the screen is visible. Have to pull the batter and reboot. Same issue in safe mode. Any suggestions?

Gingerbread looks really good. It's definitely a step-up, visually. It's pretty smooth as well. I want to re-root eventually. Get my treats back up and running :)

Pretty happy with this update. Couple questions, it says you can customize the dock. I'd like to put the App Drawer icon back near the middle, how do you customize?

Also I read something about this update including something called "app grouping" or something like that, any idea what that is?

Edit: Oh I see the app grouping, the icon in the upper left of the app drawer.

i received OTA update this morning at 12:30 am. Its really nice and my phone is much faster. Does anyone know how to change the Launcher from say like Launcher Pro to the stock Launcher. I really want to use the new Gingerbread launcher and its features but I dont know how to select it without uninstalling Launcher Pro so it will default to the new Launcher.

The new Launcher that comes with Gingerbread is impressive to me!

Also I see a new feature in the menu settings called "Profile". Does anyone know what thats all about?

You can have 3 profiles, so essentially 3 sets of home screens. So say you use a lot of business apps at work, you can have them on your Work profile and only see them on your home screens. Then on the weekend you switch to the home profile and you have home screens and wallpapers related to fun and family or whatever. I don't think I will use it but I can see some people might like it.

everytime I go in to get it I keep getting the "check for update was not available at this time. Try again later."

Is there anything I can do, or do I have to just keep trying? My phone is completely stock, never rooted

Gb downloaded and installed fine for me. My main complaint is the light is gone from the buttons @ the bottom. Kinda hard to find Menu, Home etc.in the dark. Any way to fix that?

I don't have that problem here. If I hit the Power or Home button, the 4 buttons light up, same as always.

I updated today and seemed to have no problems, until I realized some of my contact information is gone. The people are still listed as contacts, but some or all of the info I had listed for them is gone, such as phone numbers, emails, birthdays. Went out to the Verizon site, the info is no longer in Backup Assistant either. My husband said he's lost all the birthdays in his contact list.

Bummer. :(

button lights

The buttons are now light sensitive, they don't light unless the ambient lighting is dim. Very nice.

Is it possible to get the trial version of "Need For Speed" linked up somehow, so that I can re-install it? That is the only piece of bloatware that I have deleted on my X since I got it last October. Never had a need for it...until now, I guess.

I have downloaded GB, but not tried to install it yet because apparently I need to have NFS still on my X, correct? I have never rooted...been stock since day one.
