Gingerbread 6-1-2011

How long does the download take? Mine is going on 25 minutes. 3G stock phone and the download arrow is "bouncing".

Downloading took almost an hour on my stock/never rooted X. Installation was just a few minutes.

Quadrant Benchmarked at 1624. Overall(and I'm nowhere used to all the changes), it's very nice and worthwhile.

Thanks to the OP for the info!

but at the same time I have also heard people say they have run the update rooted without a problem..

wait, really? I'm still running rooted and still have not received any notification about an OTA update, but was always wondering what would happen if say I did receive the notification, and I went ahead and did it, still while rooted?

I have a question, my husband has a Samsung fascinate (I know, I know) does anyone know if this gb update would be able to be pushed to his phone via the update file on the sd card? or is this update geared ONLY for the Droid x?

As far as I have heard, this is just for the X, the samsung fascinate just got 2.2 recently and 2.3 is still waiting for a release date from samsung. Have a few friends with fascinate and they are disappointed too

Mine only took about 10 min to download, and about the same to install. Exact same time for my girlfriends X as well.

Not having any issues, loving the new update.

I stayed rooted and the update worked just fine.

I made the mistake of deleting stock apps, I'm in the process of doing a major download of 2.2.1 stock apps. Hopefully that will enable me to get the update.

I'm afraid I'm about to find out. I was unable to stop the DL, it forced it on me automatically this afternoon.
I have delayed the installation; each time I tell it to wait it doubles the time- it's up to 4 hrs now. Problem is, if I miss the notice its probably going to auto-install anyway.
However, I am rooted so maybe the install will fail. I'm just not sure where that would leave me...

not sure if anyone else is going to have the same problem, but i've got 2 droid x phones and both after the update TiKL wasn't working, had to uninstall and reinstall via the market. Not a big deal, just thought I would give you guys a heads up.

quick question....
If I downloaded and installed the gingerbread update .596 from the link here will I be able to get future OTA updates from verizon??? My phone was completely stock before Saturday when I downloaded and installed .596

I can't even get the OTA to install. I must have downloaded it 7 times already, on the 8th now. I was rooted before using z4 but i only used it for the wireless tethering. I restored my phone back to factory by using settings/privacy/factory data reset but it still won't work.

After downloading on wifi, when my phone restarts so it would install, it will always fail saying something about the update.zip not being there. Where is "there" and why am i wasting data downloading something that isn't "there"?

Did you sbf back to stock or just do a factory reset? If you only did the factory reset you are still rooted which will cause the install to fail. P3 stated that in order to take the official OTA update from verizon you HAVE to be on complete, unrooted stock froyo which means you will have to sbf your phone back to 2.3.340 to take the OTA.

sorry i solved my problem several hours ago. Orignally i did just factory reset via the privacy command. A little later i found a 2.3.34 SBF which i installed and from there i was able to download the OTA update from Verizon.

It looks nice but i don't like how i have widgets beneath my widgets on the home screen. I'd either like to change them to ones that i use most often and then delete a row of them.

If that don't work then you're gonna have to SBF your X and do a factory reset. That's the only way it'll work for you, having been rooted and removing bloat. I'm going to have to do the same to my Girlfriends X tonight, if I can pry it away from her and get it charged enough. lol
